Dustin Iannotti: The name of this producer is not exactly familiar. But in fact, Dustin is a big fan of poker and has already done a lot for its development and promotion. Dustin's goal is to make something similar to Netflix's Drive to Survive series. This project brought back the popularity of Formula 1. The producer is aiming for a similar effect for poker. He is personally working on a major documentary project, the premiere of which is scheduled for the summer. Filming took place during wsop Paradise 2024, and many stars of the modern poker "scene" were involved in it. Dustin believes that poker needs a similar shake-up. With 600 hours of footage shot during WSOP Paradise 2024, Kristen Foxen chasing her breakthrough, Liv Boeree in the legendary deep run, millions on the line, it all allowed Iannotti to create stories about poker and real people. The documentary is scheduled to premiere at the start of the WSOP summer series. Iannotti is counting on a digital release — this way he will be able to show the project to a wider audience faster." Queen's Move" for chess - let's do the same for poker.

Maybe it can work for LIVE poker to some extent. But good luck getting people back to play ONLINE games for money (aka not going to happen).

He is mostly talking about increasing the fan base and viewers of poker content.

Interesting. Of course the movie like "Queen's gambit" would boost the popularity, but poker market is growing rapidly.
Especially online poker. Suggesting it is declining sounds as an absurd.

The Industrial Revolution was a period of major technological advancement. It began in Great Britain and then spread to other parts of the World. This in turn brought about an increase in a new game they played in the factories on their breaks... called 'the pokerzz'. (later just 'poker'). I hear they will make a movie about it.
This was one of my favorite History classes in school.

This is great news! A well-made documentary could bring a lot of new players to the game. Has there been any mention of a release date yet?

I read Dustin's X post about this a little while back - https://x.com/dustini/status/1910458559386812757 - I don't agree that poker content is "creatively redundant", however, I do agree that the industry needs a more public platform. Poker Go is great, but it's really only ever going to reach an audience of poker fans that are already playing anyway. A Queen's Gambit style Netflix series, or even a documentary / docudrama would be great and would reach an audience of millions.

However, what I will say is no amount of shows or publicity will bring back the poker boom of the Moneymaker era unless governments roll back their gambling laws and licensing rules.

Perhaps you're not aware but GGPoker is alive and booming!
They currently have daily $25 Tournaments running with top places paying out up to ~$10k
And even some $5 MTT's paying close to $5k. And this is mid-week tourneys!!!

On the weekend you'll see some HUGE numbers!
$8 buyin $3,600 1st
$10 $8,000
$5 $3,000
$15 $11k for 1st, $10k for 2nd, $8.2k for 3rd, $8.8k for 4th, 5th $4,7k (4-way deal)
$15 $11k 1st, $8,5k 2nd, $6,6k 3rd, $5k 4th

There's a few tournaments with over $1 Million prizepools.
And GG's biggest event held each week has 1st place paying out $306,923 this week (2nd $240k, 3rd $188k).

This doesn't look to me like people aren't ALREADY getting back to playing ONLINE games for money. Perhaps you've just chosen to sit out??? I mean it's hard to know what's really going on when you're not a part of it. Right?

It has to be an extraordinary move to be compared to the queen's gambit and what's more, the movie portrays the absence of women in chess tournaments.

This is very interesting project about the documentary. I recently reviewed the old WSOP tournaments. Interviews of participants always reveal their thoughts.

stunning and the film will feature a muse more beautiful than the actresses from FRINDS or countless Hollywood films because she is very beautiful and charming!

Yes, we are all waiting for Rounders 2... Will be interesting to see how Mikey fared after Black Friday, because I imagine he would be crushing those online games.

This sounds really exciting! Poker has always had incredible personalities and stories, but it rarely gets the kind of mainstream spotlight that chess got with The Queen’s Gambit. A well-made documentary could really show the drama, psychology, and highs and lows of the game to a much wider audience. If it’s done right, it could attract a whole new wave of players and fans. Definitely looking forward to seeing how this project turns out!

I've only seen one poker movie - Five out of Five. It's a tough movie, but if you want to play poker for your own money, I recommend watching it. It's not long, it's a short film.
