PokerStars has many ways to find your other account. Starting with your IP address, ending with your personal data and data from your bank statements or other payment systems. I do not recommend you to create another account because it will definitely lead to problems. There will come a time when you want to withdraw your funds and then you will simply be disappointed.

Did you close your account in order to open a new one later? .... it's weird. But I think if you want, you can restore your old account. It is better not to open a new one, as this may be considered a violation of PokerStars rules. Definitely, try to just restore your old account.

At that time, the only way legal to do was if other players could identify who you were through your username, like if your username was you real name. Something that in my opinion I thought was something simple and silly, is seen as a cardinal sin for them.
But everything is fine.
