When You HAVE to Leave a Tourney

People dumping chips to leave is all part of the game IMHO. I also never really trust people who say they have to leave - sometimes they lie.

Personally - if I figure I don't have enough chips to get to the money being blinded - I will bet all in until either I do or I'm busted.

Depends how late in the tournament it is. I've never left before, but if it's within the 1st couple of hrs, I may try to double up before I put it on Post & Fold.

Well, good to know I'd like playing with most people here. I started a thread on called - what annoys u most.
When u go all in preflop every hand, ur just holding up the game. you never know if you're going to win. half the time you do,knocking out someone who actually WANTED to play, and it's annoying for everyone at the table. It's saying, well, I cant play anymore, so I'm not going to let anyone else.
And the absolute worst are the guys who have, say, twice the chips as anyone else at the table. So you know this is going to last for 10 minutes, cause he's not going to lose it in one hand, and he's going to win a couple. It's just.... unbelievably rude. Go ahead and leave, and let the people still playing play the game.
Deep breath. Happy thoughts. Just came from a 6 player sit n go, 5 minutes in guy says he has to go to dinner, starts all in-ing every hand. And, of course, holds up the game. Just RUDE.

I think the etiquette is to bow out and let the blinds bleep you out. HOWEVER, I do believe that you have the right to play out the tourny any way you wish. And if you choose to go all in hand after hand...well...i guess that's life. I would never do that though.

This is an old thread. One of Jammers 1st I imagine. Never noticed it before, but looks like some new life has been breathed into it. I myself am guilty of the all-in announcement. Not as a ploy. I guess I thought it was the fair thing to do. Apparently I didn't put enough thought into it. Sitting out is probably the best choice. If your going to dump your chips, don't announce it, and try to spnread it out over a few hands. Fold the premium hands. I played a PokerWorld-Home Freeroll the other day at absolute where I had to leave at the final table to take my son to Little League. My wife sat in for me. With the blessing of the table of course.

Another way rather than going all in is to expalin you have to leave then make large raises then fold at the flop.
That way you don't knock people out and you give your chips to people who must have had reasonable hands to call.
But I think the answer is to have an option where you can leave and your chips just get wiped out or spread around the table evenly.
Some sites just wipe out the chips if you have not taken your seat in the first 5 or 10 minutes, so there could be an option to leave yourself.

Another thought on this is that if you have near or above average stack then check fold as there is always a chance you can end in the money.
On Earth this is especially true.
I once missed a whole tournament (it was unavoidable!) and still ended in the money!
On that site I will play a lot looser to see if I can get above average then leave on check/fold.

ive never had to leave yet,but if i had to i would say (( something came up got to go )) then i would put myself on auto or click sit out. i would not give my chips to one person, its not fair, and who no`s i might be back in time to finish.>>> buckster436roud:

But people on partypoker are accused of having "BOTS" play while they are away


These bots fold raise and do everything themselves. Alot of people say programmers put em in so they could rig you.

How is this handled in a real tournament?

It depends upon the house rules for the casino and/or tournament. The options would be for the departing player to announce his intention to sit out to the dealer, then leave the table. Most of the time, his seat will then continue to be dealt until his chips have been blinded out. However, some casinos will speed tournament play by stipulating that any player who is absent for a specified number of consecutive big blinds (usually 2 or 3) forfeits his remaining chips to the house, his seat is closed, and he is considered out of the tournament. If he wanted to dump his chips, he certainly could, but he would have to do so discreetly, as it is a general rule in casino tournament play that chip dumping is forbidden. And if he declared, "I'm going all in" after the cards have begun to be dealt, he is obligated to do so. Of course, it is never cool in any context or environment to tell what you're holding in an attempt to solicit a call and dump out. That would get you harshly warned or immediately disqualified in a brick & mortar game.

If I have to go out I just switch it off and get blinded out. Sometimes I will get back and still be in the tournament.
I once left a tournament when I was in the top 5 with just less than 100 people left. I lasted nearly 2 hours and made the final table while I was sitting out.
My friend was watching and I won 3 times in a row when I was all in at the end.

It seems like whenever I have tried to go all in w a bad hand, I always win. The more I try to lose, the more I win. So I try to dump as much as I can around the table to keep it fair, then when the chip count is low enough, I blind out. I have been at tables where someone goes all in several times "trying to lose" and always wins, I thought it was a set up, but a couple of weeks ago, I had to leave a game, and tried the same thing, I kept winning too. Maybe this will help.

I usually just put it on autofold, that way its fair to everyone, especially in situations where im almost in the money (which I almost always end up if i autofold). I used to all in as well but it just isnt fair so i dont do it anymore.

I have done the announcing of the all in in the past and wont do it again. I didnt know how much it bothered people. I think from now on I'll just try to double up on the 1st halfway decent hand I get and then autofold and hope I place while im gone.

I go all in but i also announce what my underneath cards are. The table players can decide wether to play or not.

I usually announce that I will be going all-in and then put every dollar in except one. After someone calls .... I fold so I won't accidentally win the hand. Then I go all in with my last dollar.

I would rather do that then leave the table with another "Sit out".

Ya I agree with the sit out if its copletely honest. but ome people build thier stack up and use that excuse to try to sit there way into the money. If you can stick around at least sit and fold every hand

When a tournament runs too late, I will just put it on auto pilot and leave. Either I qualify for the next stage or I won't.
