Many players say that building a bankroll from freerolls is impossible, but I believe it can be done with enough discipline and consistency.

Freerolls usually have very large fields, which makes them difficult to win. However, they also give players a chance to start without risking money. If you can reach the final tables consistently, the small prizes can slowly build your bankroll.

The key is not to treat freerolls like a gamble. Playing tight in the early stages and adapting later in the tournament can make a big difference.

Once you win a few dollars, you can start playing micro-stakes tournaments and continue growing your bankroll step by step.

Has anyone here successfully built a bankroll starting only from freerolls?

If I've experienced it and if it's possible, everything is in how you manage that bankroll.

Yes, you can build a bankroll from freerolls, it will grow faster if you are disciplined, sometimes there are really cool freerolls and they give away tickets to them, you need to be patient. For beginners, this is a good start.

Exactly! Bankroll management is the foundation of long-term success in poker. No matter how skilled you are, poor bankroll control can lead to unnecessary risk and big losses.

Even if you’ve experienced bad runs or tough sessions, managing your bankroll properly allows you to survive variance and stay in the game. It’s not just about winning hands—it’s about staying disciplined, knowing your limits, and playing within your means.

In the end, a solid bankroll strategy often separates winning players from those who burn out too quickly.

Absolutely! Freerolls are a great way for beginners to start building a bankroll without risking their own money. 🎯
The key is patience and discipline. Even though the prizes are small, consistently reaching final tables and taking advantage of ticket giveaways can gradually grow your bankroll.
It’s also a fantastic way to gain experience, learn tournament dynamics, and practice decision-making in real situations. For new players, starting with freerolls is definitely a smart move before moving up to low-stakes games.

Of course you can. Freerolls are a great way to fund your bankroll for free. It won't be $1,000, but it's a great way to get started and maintain your bankroll.

I have withdraw £2000 in pure profit, I have a bankroll of over $100 cash + over $40 in poker/tournament dollars and over 60 tickets to play in the coming months mostly micro and low stakes but a few bigger ones including a $215 buy in and a £500 buy in to live game valid until the end of the year.

All of these come from playing freerolls, freeroll satellites and micro stakes with freeroll profits.
So building a bankroll from freerolls is possible it just takes time in my case above about 15 months.

Building a bankroll from freeroll tournaments is very possible, but it requires time, patience, and consistency....

CardsChat offers many events for its members to help them build a bankroll through freerolls. As long as you remain consistent and patient, achieving this goal is definitely possible. I wish you the best of luck....

In my opinion, it is possible, but it will take time to build up a sufficient bankroll to start. The good thing about it is that you gain experience without investing money.

I play at Partypoker.

Being fair the £2000 I have withdraw was mostly made up of 3 big wins 2x 1k tour package (£500 expenses + £500 live game ticket) and a $479 bubble win when playing for $530 tickets, but the rest was from small and medium wins.

Well, winning 1 big freeroll means you've already built BR for microstakes, so yes.

How can you withdraw tickets, haha! Or did you actually win the live events, too??

Nowadays it's a bit tougher to build a bankroll from freerolls as many sites don't offer as many of this free games as in the past, while many sites pretty much eliminated this games altogether, so most likely the players that say it's 'impossible' had the chance, like myself, to play lots of very good free games(I even remember playing an $1 million freeroll on Stars and quite a few $50k+ ones without any requirements, but this was like 10+ years ago...), so they might not even try to consider building a bankroll from $10 to $100 freerolls that have like 1000+ players... as someone that doesn't like to play on too many sites at the same time, 888 is IMO still the best place to start building your bankroll from 0 as they offer a lot of daily freerolls, have a good loyalty system(unless you're from a country with heavy regulations) and the field is pretty weak... another plus is that CardsChat has daily community games on 888 too, usually with under 100 players, and this games will help you build a bankroll a lot faster... to make it short, ATM I think it's tougher to build a bankroll from 0, but it's still possible and it will help a lot if you're a decent poker player and/or work constantly to improve your game...

I've built a bankroll a number of times starting out with just freerolls, but as you mention, discipline and consistency is key.

The beauty of being a cardschat member means you have access to a pretty exclusive range of freerolls, where the fields are smaller and the prizes more worthwhile. This means it is much easier to build a workable bankroll much more quickly, despite the fact that the average player ability is much bigger.

The key is moving up from freerolls. Literally anyone can cash and therefore be profitable playing only freerolls, but you have to be a winning player at least at the super-micros in order to grow that roll to more than $10-20. If you're a losing player, it doesn't matter how many freerolls you play and cash, ultimately all you're going to be doing is donating those winning back into the poker eco-system.

Yes, it’s possible — but it’s slow and requires patience.

Freerolls have huge fields, so variance is high and cashes are small.
The key is to play tight early and take advantage of weak players later.

Once you build a small bankroll, move to low-stakes games with proper BRM.
It’s a grind, but a good way to start with zero risk.
