Chat during online play

I use chat during online tournaments (if it's enabled) just to try and get some information out of other players (as well as inject some of my own) which I then try to use during play (possible bluffing etc).

Do you use chat or not? Do you fully disable it because it's distracting? I can type pretty fast so for me using chat even while in a hand isn't a problem.

Chat boxes from a variety of poker rooms varies in their implementation. On ACR, it doesn't work right now.

On BOL, their implementation is awesome. They have chat 'bubbles' pop up over the senders avatar. This is pretty cool, and allows you to talk some smack back and forth.

For the most part I don't do chat for goading or getting some advantage over a player. It is pretty much worthless, because most players ignore it.

I think chatt during a poker game is ok reason when other players want chatt then they can do it over team speak every time also ok

I don't really see much use in using the chatbox so I just ignore it except for commenting on the hand after the hand has taken place.

I turned off the chat long time ago and never looked back. I play poker for fun, and chat in online poker is not about laughs and relaxation but quite the opposite.

I don't think you can trust any information you glean from the other players and you may give away some information yourself. If this doesn't bother you and the typing doesn't distract you - go for it, especially if it adds to your enjoyment while playing.

I don't use it generally because I play quite a few tables and there's usually just complaining in the chat box anyways - oh poker players!

I do chat at a live table and I love making people feel uncomfortable.... very +ROI, but you become a Ahole to most people... but i dont like to play poker with my friends so no worries

I turn chat off. If it's on sometimes I will let it influence my decisions or cause me to play more passively where I am afraid to make a mistake. Trash talk can also cause me to tilt where I want to get revenge and not play correctly because of it.

Agree, in Pokerstars few people chat, or they use it only to send an icon or a single phrase

I have seen many players who use the chat to be commenting every time a hand ends ... they wonder what hand each one was carrying ... and if they should have made a call or fold ... etc ... obviously I think they try get information from each other ... however I do not believe in such strategies since they could be lying to you ... also it seems to me that chatting constantly can deconcentrate it from the game ... I only use it to greet some known player and nothing more... !

what Kind of Information do you get in the Chat for a possible bluffing Chance against V?

I rarely use the Chat because for me it's kinda useless. I don't want to Chat while I Play and on pokerstars I'm usally on the 'info' tab instead of the Chat tab to see my Position in the Tournament and how far away I am from the Money.


If you want to get Information on your opponents, search them on sharkscope or pokerprolabs or take notes on their plays

Chat during the game is not needed. Distracts only. So I just turn it off

I talk a lot in general , so no surprise that I can chat quite a bit during a game, it just depends on the game and what's going on , some days there are great battles with great chat to go with it , makes the game more fun imo

I just recently disabled the chat bubbles completely, so unless I have my chat box opened I'm not gonna see whether someone said anything or not. That's answers the question I think

For me chat is distracting, and, although sometimes chatting can be very fun, still nothing good has come from me chatting yet. But bad things have happened - me being either distracted/ concentrating on a silly thing and not on what I should have been concentrated on had resulted to me doing dumb / fatal moves, or I perceived certain things in chat wrong and might have adjusted my play incorrectly.

Maybe I would have a different point of view if I could type in Russian (in certain rooms you can), but concentrating on Latin alphabet while thinking in Russian (transliterating) or translating to English in my head and then typing it is too much of an effort / distraction for something so insignificant.

I try not to be distracted by conversations while playing. More important to me is the focus on achieving the goals.

I do not use chat, because it focuses on the game. I can only send emoticons. Many people use chat to insult them.
