I am having trouble when blinds get large.

I myself try never to call hands at this stage with small stacks. I try to go all out with interesting hands, that can be a pair or 10,J but not necessarily with A,6. I think it`s the players call simply to often with A as a high card. But when I have a bit more time than in your example I would not "steal" blinds, because it`s too risky. I would only try all ins with cards like A,Q.

So I get 54-45 win for the A6 vs JT in a hand calculator. The Ace makes a big difference. When getting blinded away you have no choice. It don't have to look pretty.

With 4 BBs You absolutely have to go all in with any Ace unless there were jams in front of you

Hi all, I have been practicing, for a couple years on line, mostly freerolls and am doing well late in to the torrney. Last night i played 5 free rolls. I finished 255 out of 4000 players. My problem seems to be I get to tight as the blinds go up. I don't seem to have my timing on and when I play good cards nothing comes. I tossed a A 6 when I had 8000 chips and the blinds were 1000 and 2000. I was the next to act after the BB and figured there were to many players behind me to play an Ace with a 6 kicker. I would havew made 3 aces and been in good shape had I been willing to risk it all on an A 6. Any suggestions would be

I like to play aggressive. That way you can get out quickly, but iff you are lucky final table is there..and real money is there

no trouble risking A6 in a table full off medium size stacks , there not your call players its the players with big stacks that want u out, but u got to be aggressive to get to the cash

In most cases you will fail with A/6 because the most players call big stacks also with A/maybe J. I myself think J/10 is the better choice you get. You can win with J/10 even against A/K, but with A/6 it looks more painful. But all in all the chances to win are anyway very small. you have to win 3 times to get out of your position.

It sounds to me like you might be letting yourself get to short before entering push fold mode . I know sometimes it sucks when you get no hands for a long time and your stack starts to dwindle but in mtts you need to chip up continously to give yourself a chance to win . That is why once you are around 10-7 bbs you should be shoving in preflop with a relatively wide range of hands . Try studying this chart and learning what you should be shoving at 10bbs and under .

You can't learn poker having not any trouble! Every hand you play at the cash or tournament, really doesn't meter, turns to you like experience.
So having trouble you need to perceive like your personal task to complete this day. And how often you could deal with them so faster you keep more energy to be better in poker! Good luck!

I have noticed watching poker on TV that the amateurs who make the final table try to play big pots early so they don't get outplayed by more experienced pros after the flop. The commentators seem to feel that is the right play, so that might be a strategy you may want to employ.

You will definitely fold in spots that are the correct fold and live to regret it that is just part of the game. My advice for later stages is to pay attention to the players at your table and play aggressively with position. Find players who are folding when raised or who play weak post flop and abuse! Weakness in even the toughest of players can be found if you look hard enough, find it and take advantage while you can. Good luck!

If you're under 10 big blinds, you should pretty much either fold or shove. depending on how many people are at your table, how far from the money you are and your position. I would just look for a good opportunity and look to double up.

Everybody is right about loosening up your play in the bigger blinds but you also have to understand why.

Stealing blinds late in a tournament will often take you from bubble to chip leader within a matter of a few hands.
Keep your eyes on people who fold to a 3 bet, or who make a lot of min bets out of position.
Make note of people who over value marginal hands.

You need to go from being a passive player to the person exploiting passive players.
