I am working on not playing specific hands but playing a range of hands. IT has really help me figure out how to play certain hands in specific spots. All I have to figure out is where my specific hand fits into my range for the spot I am in and then play accordingly. When I first started doing this, I thought I would never be able to figure it out but over the last year studying it has started to become naturally. It has really helped me post flop as well.

This is the essence of modern poker. Crafting ranges and playing a balanced strategy. Anyone who doesn’t know all the hands they can make it to x spot with will be playing a guessing game against a balanced player.

The beauty of it is, even if you just make your own ranges, playing that in a balanced way will give a massive edge against unskilled players. There are a ton of range charts online to chose from, I suggest picking a lose range and learning from there.

It really all depends on stack sizes and position. Having JJ can be very profitable or it can be ruinous, depending on a number of circumstances.

I, seem to have bad luck with JJ, but that's probably not an objective opinion.

Personally, I think if you play JJ with confidence, and in the right situation, it will be profitable most of the time.

JJ

Pocket jacks to me is the hardest starting hand to play. I usually play them very strong because it is so hard to play after flop.

Hello,

JJ is tricky indeed. But poker overall is tricky as well!
Jacks is the 4th best hand in poker, you should just not overplay it, and you should include it in the strong range which you will balance with you weak range, and you should not play it always the same way.

I think that Jacks is not a hand worth playing 4betting all in, or calling 4bet all in with (in normal spots), but is a very valuable hand in it's way!

Pocket JJ´s is not easy to play. But you can also get good chips with this pair. Position is important as always, you don´t wanna play with a lot of guys with this one. Two maximum, better one. So you can C bet and take the pot depends on the flop. Many situations can come, but it is a good hand of course.

In Friday's cardchat Freeroll, I was playing JJ! Made a raise level opponent on the table came out 10, 6, and 5 I put a little more Bank (all that was) the opponent responded the same! The stacks we had are equal it opened with Q10o and on the river came a lady! Like this!!!

Play as any middle pair, play out carefully depending on the players and the flop cards.

2 ways to play pocket JJ'

Two ways to play pocket JJ's both are wrong, if you been watching the table keep it low as you can. When in the turn betting can tell you a lot are they betting their Ace King or the Queen. The betting so important are they setting a trap for you. Each time you get JJ they play so different. Good luck good cards to you

I found the best way to play JJ is to raise preflop then play it like any other middle pair. If there are overcards play it safe, and if the set hits be aggressive.

JJ

This is a great hand pocket JJ. I have won more with JJ in the blinds than AKoff. I just can't believe how efective this pair is.

JJ is a tricky hand. This doesn’t mean it can’t be profitable. I am always raising 2.5 to3x preflop or 3betting big enough to isolate. You do have to realize that JJ is a decent starting hand but in many situations can go downhill fast. I use caution post flop because I have gotten myself in some trouble in the past. I am now capable of folding them preflop and especially postflop. Preflop if facing a 3 or 4 bet shove I’m likely behind or flipping at best. Sometimes flipping is ok but other times risking an entire stack isn’t wise. There are better spots to get yourself in for all your chips. But this depends on the situation. I’ve regretting flipping away too many stacks to know that there’s better spots that are less likely to be as risky. Post flop over cards kill the hand often. Tread carefully.

I see a lot of players go all-in with JJ which not advisable.

How JJ should be played varies with many factors (tourney vs. ring, position, stack sizes, the players, etc.) but one basic strategy to keep in mind is that you should want to be either heads-up (able to win unimproved) or against 4 or 5 players (for a big payoff should you hit your set).

The absolute worst is to be up against only 2 or 3 players.

My 4th favorite hand in poker. Opening this from any position and 3 betting from late a lot. Love making sets with this hand on dry boards as they tend to bring out peoples aggressive side. As well as when people have QQ+ and a jack comes they feel that they are safe and I'm betting AJ or something like that. Don't over play the hand. When people are betting aggressively on a AKorQ flop you need to throw this away. Maybe you'll get bluffed once in awhile, but thats poker folks! Check out the odds calculator at the top of the page. It is very helpful.

Like BnaD said, play JJ like any other pocket pair. The strength of JJ comes from a.) it can be an overpair b.) it's still a high pair so if you flop a set, it can almost be considered the nuts. You can also use JJ as a bluff on the turn/river of a broadway draw as it blocks the straight.

Yea JJ is at a "pinch point" in hold'em as when things get heated you are unbelievably flipping at best or crushed likely. You need to 4 bet to find out if you are ahead pre-flop to avoid calling down with overpair to find out you just paid off 3 street of value with jacks.
