The reward and the variance is higher in Poker tournaments.

Pros of Poker Tournaments
  • More time allows skilled players to showcase strategy and patience.
  • Larger blind structures reduce luck and emphasize skill.
  • Extended play creates a deeper, more memorable experience.
Cons of Longer Poker Tournaments
  • Can be physically and mentally exhausting.
  • Requires significant time commitment, limiting flexibility.
  • Longer duration may discourage casual or recreational players.

The duration depends on the structure, the number of players, the speed of the blinds increase and the depth of the stacks.Essentially, if you know the expected number of entrants (based on previous data), the share of the field that goes into the money, the starting stack, and the level structure, you can estimate when each stage will occur to within 1-2 levels. Please make late registration.

Just try playing hyper tournaments, over the course of enough games your ability will still show through

If you play turbo tournaments, they usually last around 3.5–4 hours. Is that really a long time for poker? I don’t think so.

I like playing super turbo tournaments because within 30mins to 1hr you can be in the money. for normal speed ones normamlly 1hr-1hr30 is the min time for the minimum payout

I also think it's interesting to play super turbo tournaments, actually in 30 minutes to 1 hour, you can taste the prize money.

Yeah, it's true. And the worst part is you don't even know if you'll make money or not after wasting your time.

I agree with you, although some tournaments are quick, others take longer due to the number of players and their format. Large tournaments require more time; we just have to get used to it.

You need so much luck in tournaments compared to cash games. Play for hours and hours and end up getting knocked out with the very best hand. Then you are just gambling to stay in the tournament when short stacked.

Learn to play cash game poker 100%. Yes you can lose big time unlike aTournament which is just your buy-in. But cash is KING when played properly.

In effect. The idea is that only those who have performed well for a long time will play in the final stages, not just players with a winning streak.

Yep. That is why i win money in freeroll tourneys and head to the cash tables. There I lose my winnings as I do better at tourneys, not so good at a cash table.

One of the things I really love about a tournement is how, as the tbales break and oyu get moved round, you play against many different types of players.
One of the best feelings is losing at a table early in a tournement, only to meet the same players at the final table! So fun!

In freerolls and low stake games sitter limping can easily add an extra hour to tourneys, but sitter limpers just can't get enough of playing bad hands, out of position, with no initiative.

I changed my choice to turbo a long time ago for this reason - its worth then shopping round to get the best value turbo tourneys.
I also like the games with high antes. Get a good start and you are in a strong position to always min cash.

I agree, but this is your choice, there are other types of poker, and tournaments are turbo and hyper turbo - but it's more of a lotirey.

If tournaments take too long for you, you might try playing four of them in parallel. That way each one feels like it takes only about a quarter of the time. It also helps remove the pressure to play weak hands just because you’re getting bored.

If I have something to do at 6 o'clock but the tournament starts at 4 o'clock then I don't play it.

Either cash games or single table tournaments, which go faster - maybe an hour and a half.

But if you do play a long tournament then you won't be the only one tired by the end phase - other players will also be tired and misplay their hands.

Good luck !

Play cash games or faster tournaments. Turbo, hyperturbo, SnG. A Fifty/50 on Pokerstars rarely last more than 30 minutes.

Spending 1/6 of the day (4h) on poker probably isnt long time indeed although it can easily feel that way IF you start grinding (very) late in the evening (and/or in the middle of night) knowing that you have to wake up (very) early in the next morning ...

Also for turbo tournaments then anything over 3 hours is not "turbo" anymore

There's plenty or turbo and hyper-turbo bingo lotteries available too you not sure what you're going on about. Sadly those of us who don't wanna play bingo lotteries and depend on being very lucky and enjoy 10+ min blinds have very few MTT's left worth playing now days compared to what we did have in years gone by.

Some of us have had to adapt and learn to play cash when we wanna play and don't have longer blind level MTT's available when we're free. I mainly in the pasy play cash during the week when I have a 2-3 hours everyday and have saved my MTT's till weekends or days off.

Cheers!!!

This depends on which tournaments you're participating in. I don't like tournaments at ACR. Registration here can take up to 6 hours and the buy-in is $0.55. I've never seen such long periods on other poker sites.
