No this fold is a bit to nitty in my opinion. SB is playing a 29% VPIP, so even though you opened UTG, I dont think, we can say, this player is only 3-betting super premium hands, and 99 is a pretty good hand. If you had continued, then you should also call any normal C-bet on the T high flop, where you still beat all his AK, AQ etc. Then you make a decision on the turn depending on, which card comes, and his action.

The reply above has it right, and here's the math that backs it up. A 29 percent VPIP player who 3-bets you isn't doing it with only QQ+ and AK, that profile's 3-bet range is usually more like 6 to 8 percent, and 99 does fine against that. You're a small dog to the overpairs, flipping with the broadways, and crushing the smaller pairs and suited junk that a player this loose sprinkles in.



And even if you insist on treating it as a premium range, at over 100bb effective you're getting a fine price to call in position and play set-mine-plus. You flop a set about one time in eight, and this player type pays sets off.



The fold I'd actually consider is against the opposite profile, a 10 VPIP nit whose 3-bets really are aces and kings. Against a 29/x, calling is the low-stress standard line.

Even if you knew the villain had Aces you're getting an okay price to set-mine. My general rule is to call up to 10 BBs, as long as the villain has a deep stack, ( at least 15X what you are calling ) ; here you are calling 7.5 BBs, so it would have been a good call.

It should be added, that when you face a situation like this, it makes a lot of sense to open up the inbuild HUD on GG Poker, so that you can get a bit more information about the opponent than just his VPIP. 29 can mean VPIP 29 / PFR 24, but it can also mean VPIP 29 / PFR 6, and this is a completely different player type, where I might actually at least think about folding 99 to his 3-bet. Or if I call, and he bomb a flop like this, I might consider folding, because there is a very high chance, this player has JJ+. Sample size is also important, since even VPIP and PFR takes a bit of time to converge.

But with all that being said, this opponent used a reasonable 4X size for his 3-bet, he started the hand with a full stack, and his VPIP is reasonable as well. So our default assumption should be, that this is likely someone, who have studied strategy at least a little bit, and we have no reads, that allow us to deviate from the GTO strategy against him, just because he put in a 3-bet preflop.

And this is a GTO call. I checked it in GTO Wizard, and while 99 is only a partical call, it is mostly called, and GTO Wizard use a 11,5BB 3-bet from SB. Here the sizing was only 10BB, and getting a better price we should call a bit wider. So now maybe 99 becomes a 100% call, and only 88 or worse are partially folded. The hands, that are folded to a 3-bet UGT vs. SB, are all offsuit hands except AK, partials of lower pairs and some suited hands, that perform poorly against the 3-betting range like suited 1-gappers or A6s-A8s.

Even if you are only playing 2NL, I think, it makes sense to study these preflop ranges a bit, so that you can get it at least somewhat right. Of course there will be many situations, where someone limp or call in situations, where they should have raised, does not start with a full stack or use different sizing, as we already have a little bit here. But knowing the preflop GTO ranges for 100BB cash 6-max at least gives a good starting point for making decisions, and you can study these for free without purchasing the program.
