Is it worth playing 1/2 cent games?

Hi,

I need some feedback on whether there is actually any point playing these such small stake games if I am trying to make money off poker.

I deposited $25 and i've only played a few couple of hour sessions and my bankroll is at $26.50. Should I not just try the next highest because I find it really boring at the amount of money I'm winning.

Any advice is appreciated.

Thanks

I read that you should not move up in stakes until you at least double your money. I think that’s good advice.

It all depends on what you are looking to get out of poker.

I think for $ 26. It is good to play Tournaments on Saturdays and Sundays in the area from $0.55-to $3.30. If on PokerStars. If on GGPoker there are also a lot of tournaments from $1 to $2.10. You can safely play. Well, that sounds like me. Otherwise, I would have charged $25 to the cache. Yes, I'm crazy.

You need to enjoy playing poker, so I advise you to play on bets that are fun to play, if of course you can afford it

The bankroll you have does not allow you to go to the 2/5, you need to make it higher, at least to triple it, to go to the next buy-in.

I think we all want to win money fast, but you need to go step by step. I know you want to win more money, but until you dominate your actual level and increase your bankroll, it’s too risky to move up to the next level in my opinion.

I prefer other games with a 50$ stack..

Like 25 cents spin and goes, or 25 18 players..

If you get like 100$ you can play HU, i love HU

If fun is your priority, playing at high rates is also a good option.
Bankroll management is just a way to prevent bankruptcy, not a way to have fun.

Why don't you try MTT? The investment is not that much higher and you can earn way more money than what you're doing right now.

If you just start to play poker, 2NL is fine, playing at least a few weeks to see if you can defeat opponents in this level. And just move to higher stake when you have enough bankroll (at least 40-100x buy-ins) and confidence of your skills.

The higher the risk, the greater the return. It is impossible to win a lot quickly without risking losing everything at once. Want more adrenaline? Try to play without observing bankroll management, if successful, the winnings will be significant, and if unsuccessful, you will have to make a Deposit again.:)

Hi! I think the minimum bids are suitable for entry-level training. When you're just learning. And with a very small bankroll. If you do well, you need to take the level higher. Well, still follow the rules of matching the bankroll rates.

I deposit $30-$50 every 2 weeks, and I usually play on .05/.10 stakes on cash games.. I play about 1-2 hours on the table and usually double to triple my buyin....and I do get what you mean by getting a little bored winning so little when playing for a lot of time , so I best prefer you move up the stakes if your looking to get a little more from your game... Just move up a stake or two to satisfy your needs

I think you should start with low stakes and tournaments and then with practice you go up.

Yes. I started at 2nl and built my roll from there. Gotta start somewhere and learn the basics. Or build a roll if you're experienced.

The short answer is no. You are never going to win meaningfull money at 2NL, especially not when PokerStars has limited multitabling to 4 tables. Players are also not quite as bad these days as 15 years ago, where you could just 24-table on autopilot and get a decent hourly winrate that way. Plus there has been inflation and so on and so forth.

Even Blackrain79, who got famous for doing this, do not recommend it as a strategy today. If you want to play poker for profit, you need to get to 10NL at a minimum, and even then the profit is only meaningfull, if you live in a low salary country.

Well in that case I have some bad news for you. To play poker for profit, you need to be a winning player, and to become a winning player requires a lot of practice. Maybe 100.000 hands before you can really say for sure. So you have a lot of work cut out for you.

If you find 2NL boring, there is no problem with praticing at 5NL, but you are still not going to win a lot of money there. And you also need to set some more money aside. At a minimum 100$, and 150-200$ is better. Otherwise the variance will almost certainly wipe you out.

Finally stop seeing 26,5$ as a "bankroll". A bankroll is an amount of money, that cannot easily be replaced, and which you therefore need to protect. 26,5$ can easily be replaced, so its not a bankroll. Its just some random meaningless amount sitting in your poker account right now.

In my opinion, multi tabling 2nl is worth it. Playing one table of 2nl not so much.

My honest advice is to play something around twenty thousand hands on current level then if you are still winning then you can go up. Banroll management doesn't need to be too tight in micro stakes. 10-15 BIs are more than enough until you reach 25nl+

Just starting out you should master each level and move up from there. You should have at least 20 buy ins (some like more) in bankroll for what stake you want to play. If you want to move up to say 2/5nl then $100 in bankroll to cover downswings. Remember .01/.02 is the entry level for most online poker rooms and $1/$2 is the normal entry live at live casinos. So the level of play at $1/$2 online will vary considerable from that of the same stake playing live.
