Polished Poker Vol. I Study Group

I did just call here and a T came on the turn and he jammed and I folded. I was wondering whether it had been a mistake just to call on the flop and whether I may have been better raising and looking to gii on the flop.
Even if I can fold him out on the flop that might be better than what happened here, there are a lot of cards 9-Q that I don't want to see and am going to be put in a spot by his aggression.

I will attempt to pay a bit more attention to their sizing then as all I remember of this guy was bet bet bet.

If their a maniac, then it will nearly always be bet bet bet, but a lot of these guys have really obviously tells. Either they bet small when they don't have anything, or they bet small when they do. And visa versa. If there was nothing there, then just calling is fine even though it's not an awesome board and there are a lot of bad turns and river. If you're 100bbs or less, then I don't mind GIAI on the flop.

Its probably a good fold and potentially a big mistake avoided. I just flat call pre against his stats.'re the ups and downs, it comes with the territory of running a lot of big bluffs. You just said a few posts ago that your image was going to be loose/bluffy and you were going to reign in the bluffing a bit. Players remember when they get bluffed or attempted to get bluffed and take notes. That image may last longer than you think.
I think it's a good idea to make a specific note on players where you tried to bluff and failed for those are the guys who will call you down light again and you should fast play your value hands against them and not bluff.

It's ok, assuming you haven't been super active and 3-betting a lot at the table. Nit's like this have what they're telling you they have, and they rarely step out of line... because they're nits.

Why would hero bet 40BB here?

40 bb only just over pot. Maybe bet 40bb when you have value but must also bet bluffs/missed draws for balance. As there aren't many draws what are you getting paid by maybe value against fish with mid pair or weaker king.

Your flop check keeps in all the 66 to QQ which may decide to look you up here because the bet looks bluffy, the way the betting went you won't be beaten that often. Because he's in position range is wider there is some K7s K8s K9s that will look you up as much as KJ KQ

Pretty bad. You should 3-bet the turn small and then jam river. As played, I'd just bet the river again even though he raised the turn. The reason should be somewhat obvious. He can bet an amount where he doesn't commit and can fold to your jam. What happened is exactly what you want to avoid because he got away cheaper and it's unlikely if he's betting that amount that he's calling your jam, so you're stuck calling.

Also flatting out the BB, I like CRing some of these flops. This wouldn't be a bad spot either considering it looks bluffy. Jx + isn't folding. I don't hate c/cing either.

A couple of times already this guy had floated me in position and overbet or shoved as soon as I checked my medium strength hands on turn or river. What's the best plan when you think they are just floating you and are likely fairly weak themselves?

Hand 1... I think this must be a trick question. Check the turn. If he floats you, then check most of your medium + strength hands on the turn, and fire hard with your decent equity non made hands on the turn when he'll have low equity spots.

Hand 2... With this run out I'd just bet the river. I don't hate a c/c, but I think you're better off trying to get value from pair+ hands, some of which he'll check behind.

A question,

I've been getting rivered a lot recently on 4bet pots letting FDs get there on river cheaply. This is assuming that the 4bet call/raise range is at the top of the range & removing many Flush combos.

But since this has been happening, I've been thinking whether I should just bet bigger on flop & set it up for a shove on turn on 2card FD flops. Thoughts???

100bbs deep, in general... no. You shouldn't be worrying much about draws coming in. But in the case above, you should just be raising the flop because if they have AA/KK/JJ, it's going in and you don't want them getting scared on heart or draws landing. If they don't have those hands, it's unlikely you're getting much more value any ways. I think if you bet the turn around 25 then you get good turn value and make a really easy ~1/2 pot river shove.

flopped set but bad runout, river action?

On interesting river spot where I was unsure what to do...flopped set but bad runout.
The limp wasn't deliberate I was timing out and had to scramble to hit a button.

When he calls the flop check raise I put him on an overpair/set/77 maybe some 99 but then he calls as well when the Ace hits? This means he should either have AA 88 55 or 77 nothing much else makes much sense, maybe some AXs that got sticky on the flop with two overs and a back door FD. We are behind most of his range on the river so, bet fold or check fold?
