I think what makes it a correct fold is that we have 117 hands on this guy and his agg% is only 21..this is low for someone making a move like this, yeah it could be a draw with AJs or the like but I favour a set shoving that doesn't want coolers coming in on the turn and river making it difficult. I have shown significant strength and he has called the initial squeeze i'm ruling out hands like 89s J9s from this guy which really should be folding.more likely the fish in MP2 calls with these sort of hands..... this is a tight passive who still fancies his chances....

10nl at the weekend

A couple of interesting spots with some fish this evening at 10nl.
1st we get shoved on by two big fish, one a nutball when we have 4 bet AK and obvious blockers to the hands we fear. Both are all in and we are getting just over 3-1
Then in the 2nd hand we get 5 bet shoved all in by a fish we don't have that many hands on.
So do we gamble here, if so which hands....

1st hand call 3/1 and only risking $4. as they are big fish less likely for them to have KK or AA more likely one has AQ AJ or KQs and other has mid pair, or both have underpairs

2nd hand Headsup I'd fold unlikely they are shoving with a worse ace unless they are maniac or on serious tilt so you a flip at best and prob behind alot of AKs

I've had a crazy past couple of days. I think I'm going to blog about it at some point here, but just one of those stretches that you don't want to have in life. Not poker related, just life.

With regards to my previous blog post though, I'm going to pick someone who sets some goals in here and participates and do some coaching with them. Get 2015 off on the right track. We should have the second book out this next week, so there will be lots to talk about.

Turn: 9s - I bet slightly over pot, opponent calls quickly.
River is Ac - I bet slightly over pot, and opponent insta shoves. About $84 into a $42. I fold.

Again, not that results matter, but this guy had AA. So I guess another good / lucky fold.

I'll go into more detail later, but my wife and I lost our baby, and I almost lost my wife to an ectopic pregnancy. She had emergency surgery on Wednesday and she is well. However, we're sad. My wife especially... it's been very hard on her.

so much for blockers....i mean with their stats what are the chances of this???!!!!!!!!!!!!!
On a calmer note a decent weekend taking shape.
One of the things I want to improve is my three betting and squeezing but if i'm winning at these rates should I really be worrying about it? I'm seeing so many different players i'm finding it difficult to find targets to three bet a bit light as i often don't have stats on the players. There are so many fish around I also find i can't resist limping in with them, I know this is hurting my vpip/pfr ratio and my red line. Is there any easy way to run a filter to see if my limping is profitable at these stakes or not. Perhaps if i can see its not a winning tactic I might actually grow out of it.
Admittedly a bit of a heater going on here.

I am so, so sorry to read this. I have been there myself, more than once, and I know how hard this is. It will get better, although sometimes it seems like a step back before you can step forward. The pain will ease and the body and mind will heal, but it can take a while.

Everyone mourns in their own way, and I realize that it can be very hard on the husband because, in some ways, you are on the outside watching her have to cope with what her body is doing.

Sorry about the babbling above, please just know that my thoughts are with you and her.

Sorry I didn't notice your post last night, very sad to hear this, must have been a scare. I know ectopic pregnancy can be very dangerous. Not as bad now with modern medical practice but still problematic. Look after your wife and put poker on the back burner.

Here are my goals:

1.) Be more positionally aware before every hand and play less pots out of position. Especially in the small and big blinds.
2.) Take more mental notes of player tendencies.
3.) Take time before making big calls or folds.
4.) Post hands for help where I am confused or didn't know what to do.
5.) TILT less!! Lost so many bankrolls by going up in stakes after a loss : (

Hopefully I can improve on these!!

re the AQ 4 bet/5 bet shove hand in post #1529

Well his stats were showing nutball fish...vpip 70+%, pfr 40+%... 3 bet 28% so he could have anything.
I called this one off, he had 55 and I won the flip....
Once you 4 bet with AQ against his stats it doesn't make sense to lay it down. Perhaps just calling the 3bet was better in hindsight,

AJ maybe I would have folded, it's actually quite difficult to know where to draw the line in these situations, but by calling I now have the information I need on this guy should I run into him again...sometimes in close situations like this i will call for the information and show I won't be run over.

Yeah, thanks. The physical part will heal fast, the emotional part has been super hard on my wife. I think she's doing her best, but there's only so much I can do on that end.

I don't want to dwell on it in here. I appreciate the support. I wanted to write about it on my blog though to inform others of potential risks and issues. The medical model in the U.S. is severely flawed, and could have costs my wife her life. It's literally only because I had to play doctor and insist on certain things and tests that we caught the problem. They wanted to diagnose it as vertigo (and did). The doctor said my wife was ~ < 24 hours from having her fallopian tube rupture, and she would have bled out and died. It could have easily happened while I was out, and she would have been gone.

But all is good... or as good as it can be.

He's a fish with little aggression, so perfect blocker bet of $3.00 and fold to a raise. Just bet what you'd be ok with calling if you check called. This way you don't miss value, and if you check intending to fold, you never know what a fish will bet w/o good reads. If you have good info, I don't mind a c/f. There's not much that should be betting here besides a busted flush draw.

I think you played the turn fine. Good sizing versus a fish.

I don't typically advocate river blocking bets, but there are some specific scenarios where it makes sense. Usually just against fish or really weak players where you have extremely low chance of being moved off a hand, and they can still call with worse. You just ask yourself, what's the most I'd be willing to call if I check called, and then bet that amount instead of check / calling. Fish will pay off with worse more than you'd imagine, and then you don't lose value from them checking behind.
