In November 2024, a 64-year-old Rhode Island man was suffering from a 'medical episode characterized by dizziness, double vision, vomiting, and profuse sweating' while staying at the Caesars Palace Las Vegas. At that point, employees assessed the man as being drunk and called an Uber to take him away from the property (I'm assuming they were sending him to a medical centre). In the meantime, the man died two weeks later from unspecified causes, and the family is now suing Caesars for wrongful death.

  • The family of a Caesars Palace guest who died in 2024 is suing the resort’s owners for wrongful death
  • The suit claims staff mistook a medical crisis for intoxication and called a rideshare to remove the guest, contributing to his death two weeks later
  • Claiming negligence, the seeks medical costs, funeral expenses, and punitive damages

Well that was a big misstep by those Caesar casino employees but i mean it's probably difficult working daily with all the Tourists coming and going.

... The specific nature of the medical episode remains unclear, as does Perrin’s final destination and who suggested it. The lawsuit only states that Perrin died on Dec. 15, 2024...

This tracks fairly well with the litigation culture in the US. I am sure it will all come out in the lawsuit or, more likely, will just get settled out of court (likely what the family is going for).

well I personally hope the family comes out on top. Employees should call 911 regardless and let the EMTs decide
Since they are qualified, if he's too drunk, then ban him; if not, he gets the help needed. JMO

Obviously, such cases must be thoroughly investigated. Human indifference and frivolity are very common phenomena, but in such situations, such indifference and frivolity can have critical consequences.

Not sure if there's anyone to blame. The members of the staff see a lot of drunk people doing weird things every day. They are not qualified to recognize any kind of symptoms. But on the other hand, if they only wanted to get rid of the man, why not call 911? The medics or the cops would then take full responsibility.

There's also the fact that the family did not react as soon as that happened (If they knew that the guy was sick), and even after his death, they took a long time to initiate the lawsuit.

In general, I think that there will be some kind of settlement out of the court room.

I wonder if Ceasar's properties' Standard Operating Procedure was followed.

Yes there are drunk patrons....but guess what?...

Someone having a severe diabetic episode exhibits symptoms similar to being drunk - slurring, difficulty with motor control, etc.

And, a severe diabetic episode can be triggered by drinking too much, sleeping too little and being dehydrated.

Sounds like standard Vegas to me!

I agree Jay. Even if the gentleman had a few drinks and one could smell alcohol on his breath, it is prudent to play it safe and have emergency medical staff make the determination.

Staff should have called 911 and let them take care of it. Not sure how the lawsuit will turn out, but I am sure someone will be held responsible depending on the cause of death.

Maybe Uber arrives in a couple mins. and 911 takes an hour? I have no clue how it is there.

I think Caesar has good enough lawyers to make this go away.

Is the staff required by law to recognize unclear medical emergencies? I don't think so.
If the person had died two hours after the incident then there might be an actual case, but TWO WEEKS! Anything could happen in that time and since cause of death is also unspecified it makes it even more difficult to show that Caesar has done anything wrong.

I wonder who paid for the Uber ride?

Whose Uber account was it?

Standard Ceasar's corporate Uber account?

Interesting to understand the final legal judgement for such a case but its still ongoing litigation. I would bet that this will be settled out of court by Caesars' regardless if they believe they have responsibility or not. Big companies regard their integrity & public perception highly & doesn't want controversy due to business reasons.
