I once saw a guy in a poker room who asked for a special room with a roulette table just for himself. He paid for it — and it must have been a lot of money, because the casino cleared out all the poker players just to make the room available for him and the roulette. All the other poker players were relocated.

So I ask: is it possible that the money this guy spent was more profitable for the casino than the combined money of about 50 people playing cash games in the poker room?

The 50 players they maybe pay rake for playing or even some buy-in or buy a drink , but one big regular gambler could easily be more profitable for the casino .

If it wasn't more profitable for them, they would've never bothered relocating 50 cash players. And even if the amount he paid didn't cover the rake paid by those players, they know he'll lose a lot more at "his" Roulette.

Actually, I heard a poker pro on YouTube say that the wsop isn’t as profitable as the money players spend on other things — like food, drinks, and entertainment. So the real business isn’t poker itself, but the overall consumption. The WSOP is just a pretext to bring all those people together in one place.

Yes there is no doubt that to cater to this guy was more profitable for the casino than to care for a bunch of cash game players.

I've been in a casino where someone had a blackjack table to himself, so I guess that for Roulette it would be possible too.

I know that if you sit in a movie theater and buy all the tickets, it costs money, but it seems to me that in the case of poker, it would cost the average daily revenue.

Or maybe the floor manager simply said "Oh, go get a room you two".
There are all kinds of people you know.

Thats a very intriguing situation. If the man was a high roller, it is highly probable that he spent more than the poker players would have brought in. Since casinos rely heavily on high stakes players for the majority of their revenue, they are prepared to accommodate them in any way they can, even if it means emptying a room. Roulette is a quick game with a significant house advantage, and its likely that the high roller gambled at a far greater table limit than the typical poker player, enabling it to make more money quickly. It wouldnt take the casino long to recover what it had lost from those 50 players, if the man was placing large bets. Its all about keeping the big spenders happy. 😉

Of course it's possible.
You may not know this, but 1% of the world's population owns half of the world's wealth. Therefore, it could be that it would be more profitable for the casino to move 5,000 players in order to make room for one.

Casinos generally make very little(often they lose after expenses) on poker. Where in casino games they can have a very high edge.

To be honest, this is the first time I've heard of something like this. I mean, such a large number of players were kicked out because of one player who wanted to play roulette. But it's quite possible that this was a VIP player who spends a lot of money at the casino. 🤔

Yeah . I think it's logical . Big whales are way far more important for casinos than small pr tiny fish , they can lose a tone of money in favor of the casino . The casino can make profits both by their losses and the rake they generate . So yeah I can understand if they give to these whales vip privileges , they are more worthy for the casino . Any business would do the same think , treat good customers by giving them more privileges.

A casino would never do anything that is not profitable for it. If there are competent specialists working there, believe me, they know how to count money, both their own and other people's. That is the answer to your question 🙂

You should do some research on how certain celebrities gamble on roulette. It blows poker rake out of the water.

Most casinos have VIP rooms, and these rooms exist for a reason. I think one such room can bring a casino more profit in a single day than the entire casino can in a week, if not a month.

VIP clients will always be a priority for casinos. One such client can bring in more revenue for the business than 10, 20, or 30 regular clients.
