Card counting in blackjack is often portrayed as a clever way to gain an edge, but its practicality differs significantly between live casinos and online platforms. In a live setting, players can track the ratio of high to low cards because most casinos use a finite number of decks, often reshuffled only after several rounds. This makes it possible to estimate probabilities and adjust bets strategically, though casinos may counteract with multiple-deck shoes, cut cards, or surveillance. Online blackjack, however, changes the equation dramatically. Many platforms employ continuous shuffling machines or software-based random number generators that reshuffle after every hand, effectively resetting the count and nullifying any long-term advantage. While some “live dealer” online games may mimic traditional casinos, they still often introduce reshuffling too frequently for card counting to remain effective. Therefore, while card counting remains theoretically viable in live play, it is largely impractical in online environme
nts.

Counting cards online isn't really possible, because most online casinos use continuous shuffling or multiple decks that get reshuffled after every hand. Card counting only works in live blackjack games where the deck isn't shuffled constantly.

It depends, some sites will have live dealers and a single deck shoe.

Other sites its all digital and they may not even tell you how many decks it is, and you wont be able to see when they shuffle or cut.

Digital blackjack is literally just an RNG resetting every single hand, so counting there is completely pointless.
Even on the live dealer streams where you can physically see the cards, the deck penetration is terrible. They cut the shoe right down the middle, so by the time the count actually gets hot enough to justify raising your bets, they’re already shuffling again.

I don't think it works in online games, counting cards won't help you. It's just unrealistic. You can count for hours, days or weeks, but it won't affect the result.

No I don't think card counting in blackjack is possible online for obvious reasons. You will have to go to a live venue and try it there

I’ve always found online card counting kinda pointless for exactly this reason. If the game reshuffles after every hand, there’s no useful count to maintain. Live dealer blackjack can be different if the shoe runs for several hands, but you’d still need to know the specific rules and shuffle point. Personally, I’d rather focus on basic strategy.
