You were playing at a Blackjack table and somehow you had a nice streak and started winning almost every hand, so you doubled and tripled your bets till you got up to over $15K from $600.

All of a sudden, two security guys approached you and accused you of cheating or counting cards, which was not true. They then took you to an office and searched you. Not having found anything, they give you the choice of leaving with $5K or they would call the cops.

What would you do?
You mean they are giving you the choice of either leaving with 5k or making your face a little bit more blue-coloured? They don't call the cops. But there is only one other option which is to run. But it's already too late for that. So obvious choice here, since casino does not call the cops - that's just unrealistic. Take the 5k never go back to that casino again. Go to another casino.

I will not leave without my money under any circumstances. If I won it, then it is mine and they will give it to me. Although I am now retired, I used to box for about 10 years and I think I could, if necessary, set the right priorities for security guards who are not doing their job properly.

I honestly don't agree with you. I'll insist on taking all my winnings or call their bluff, let them call the cops. They then will have to prove that I did something wrong or give me the whole amount.
Not going back there is of course a no brainer.

I agree on the 1st part. No way I would leave without my winnings. But the 2nd part could lead to complications. 1st of all, you're out numbered, and if the cops show up, it'll play against you too. They'll all accuse you of starting the fight 1st.

They can call the cops to remove from premises for trespassing. The cops cannot meddle with the civil matter of the dispute between you & the casino. They do not have the authority. That's for the courts to resolve.

I suggest that a better option is to sue the casino. Could get a much bigger compensation winning in court or if they settle in court. VIolence is not an option so they won't have a reason to sue for battery & assault on their employees.

In that case, can we consider all customers as trespassers?

Exactly. If he uses violence, he will lose on all accounts.

I would be inclined to view this situation as a case of fraud on the part of the security guards. The police should look into this. I think I myself would insist that the police be involved in this case.

Only if the business owners decide to refuse service to the customer in their premises :). They have the right, don't you think?

You're right, they do. But they cannot consider winners as trespassers, otherwise they'll eventually go out of business, there are so many other casinos around.

Let them call the police so you can tell the police about how the staff at this casino are literally trying to rob you of $10k.

My guess is they are bluffing because what they are doing is illegal.

In other words....if you let them keep the $10k do you think it is going to the casino or to the security guards?

Also, casinos don't like to see winners.

Totally agree. Like I said before, I'd call their bluff. Let them call the cops, it'll be on them to prove what they're accusing me of.
Worse come to worse, they'll end up giving me all my winnings and ask me not to comeback.

Unless they tell the two police officers that they can share in the $10k....

Yeah - a casino can ban anybody for any reason.

"You are too good at blackjack for us. Please don't come back." lol

Anyone who can count cards with six packs in the deck should be doing something more productive than playing blackjack.

Counting cards and winning IS a productive endeavor. If money is important, I don't see what could be more productive.

If in desperate need of money then maybe take the 5K, but the casino is confidence tricking you here, they have no leg to stand on. Keep cool, and you'll get the full lump.

I would stick to the part where you say "Keep cool, and ..." desperate or not. The 5K is guaranteed anyway.

The guards are bluffing. I'm all in.
I would call the police myself and report the abuse.

Totally agree. If the cops show up, the casino staff would have to prove what they're accusing me of.

I agree, that would be the best option. It would be better if the police sorted out this situation so that each of the participants got what they deserved.

That's right. Why would I be intimidated and leave $10K for the casino. They already have tons of money.

If I didn't do anything wrong, I'll stick to the rights I acquired.
Dude, it's 10 thousand dollars!!!

You can call anyone you want lol

But now another question, can this actually happen in a casino?

We'll I would say it depends on which casino that is.
If it's a legal, big casino I would tell them to call the police and also the local news.
Even if you have counted cards - that's not illegal. They just have the right to ask you to leave the casino but I'm sure they do not have the right to keep some of your winnings.
If it's not that legal I would take the 5k and run...
