The European wheels have only one "0" in a green slot, while the American wheels have "0", "00", and now sometimes another green space with the casino logo or something else on it. Those green slots are where the house edge is so the more of them that there are, the worse the odds are for the players.

The fact is that the American version of roulette features an extra pocket on the wheel—the "double zero"—in addition to the standard single zero. Consequently, the American version has 38 pockets compared to the European version's 37. Naturally, this directly affects your odds of winning: in American roulette, the house edge is 5.26%.

don't see why American Roulette exists at all, given that almost everyone is aware the casino has better odds in that version. Then again, there is no end to the casino's tricks.

The odds are a bit different and it's a bit more of a gamble, that's why it's exists. I don't really think this has something to do with tricks by the casino.

the main difference is European roulette has one zero, while American has 0 and 00. That extra 00 gives the house a bigger edge

What is the difference between European and American roulette?

Though I have a feeling you already know the answer to your question, here's a thread where everything is nicely explained by Chris:

It comes down to the continent. There is an ocean between America and Europe. Although, don't forget about russian roulette—it differs even more from the other two.
