Hello guys 🙂,

Years ago, my 2nd time at a casino, I remember having decided to go alone since I've been scammed the 1st time. I didn't even have a car then and took a bus. The only game I've seen a "friend" play before was blackjack. So, I sat at a table and started betting $10 at a time. People were telling me to double up, hit or split. But no matter what I did, I was losing most of the time.

I had bought in for $300, then another $300, then $200, leaving $100 in my pocket. After losing the $800, I decided to get up and go home. Unfortunately, 2 pits further, there was a table where people were cheering and making a lot of noise. As I approached, the dealer was shuffling the cards, so I told myself why not give it another try and sat again. I hesitated a lot before betting my last $10 and when I did, I was dealt 19 and the dealer made a 20. It was like a smack that made me wake up from some hypnotized state.

I stood there and realized how hungry I was, checked my pockets and only found 65cents. I walked, a long walk to the bus station and had to wait about 2 hours for the right bus, then naively, I stepped up and told the driver that I've lost all my money and need to get home, but he laughed and said that he had heard that a million times. Surprisingly, as I was about to go down the little steps, a lady, an Asian lady I remember, who was sitting in the front seat by the door, said "Hey, you don't look like a beggar, come here" and she handed me $20, "Take it, take it, someday you'll do the same for someone".

Have you ever experienced something like this? Or helped someone in a similar situation?

Extremely interesting Story. That asian lady was as kind as it gets but probably not very honest regarding how you look (kidding, kidding!) 😅

You lost your money but gained a precious gesture of generosity!

‘You don’t look like beggar’ took me down. Honestly, I have seen many such faces with shoulders down at the Casino. Never had the courage or chance to help anyone, but for sure, I will do it next time.

I had the opportunity to do some nice gestures in my life, but unfortunately never in a casino or on the steps of a bus to pay that one back.
Still always makes me think of a nice movie with Kevin Spacey and Helen Hunt: "Pay it forward".

To be fair, I wouldn’t trust anyone in a casino who tries to give me advice or help me. It’s a world of sharks, and they prey on their victims, trying to take as much money as they can

I'm not sure I understand what you mean considering the topic of the thread.

never been stranded that bad, but i've definitely had that exact same feeling of snaping out of a trance after dropping way more than i planned on a table. you just stand there looking at your empty wallet feeling like an idiot walking out to your car. glad you made it home safe that night man, lesson learned the hard way.

I have experienced being wiped out of cash in a casino but not to the last cent that I cannot go home.

I never spent more than $20-$30 on gambling. And I only spent it when I planned to spend it in advance. Therefore, I never found myself in such situations.

What a wonderful woman. ❤️ I've never had something like that happen to me, but hopefully somewhere along the line I've done it for someone else. I'm sure that you didn't let the "chain of love" end with you. ❤️

This is a sweet song you might enjoy. 🙂

What a lovely song, thank you for sharing it.
And actually, a few months after that, I was sitting at a cash table when a familiar face said hi. The gentleman said he knew me from an undergroung club back home. He had lost all his money and needed a $20 for the bus. I couldn't believe how soon I had the chance to do something for someone. And it was weird that it involved almost the same circumstances and even the same amount.

I used to work a lot in Vegas and sometimes it felt like I was stranded.

If you were there during major conventions or NCAA basketball it was like it was too busy to do anything. The restaurants, sports book, and casinos were all packed.

Thanks for sharing your story. It sounds like that experience taught you a lesson you'll never forget. Casinos can really pull people in, especially when they're trying to win back what they've lost. The kindness of that lady probably meant even more than the $20 itself. I haven't been in that exact situation, but I hope if I ever meet someone who genuinely needs help, I'll remember her words and do the same.

That has and will never happen to me again YLAN. It did in my rookie days, but it also taught me a precious lesson.

Well, it can feel like you're stranded, but not "Stranded and broke" 🤪😂.

Thank you for the insight. It did indeed taught me a very valuable lesson since nothing like that happened to me again and never will.
Many times, I had whished to see that lady again, but it wasn't meant to be. However, I had the chance to do the exact thing and return the favor, though it was someone else.

That is fantastic❤️, and hopefully he will do it for someone else. 🙂

This has jogged my memory a bit. I'm pretty sure it was in Caesar's Palace a few years ago. A young man was sitting on one of the benches when I walked in. He asked me if I could spare ten dollars. I said yes and handed him the bill. I thought it was strange he'd pick there to ask strangers for money, but maybe he was in the same situation that you and that man you helped were. 🙂

Another related thing just popped in my mind as I was reading your post, and I'm almost sure you've seen it.

A movie with Kevin Spacey, Helen Hunt and that amazing kid (then) whom name I can never recall.

Does it ring a bell?

Looks like it's called Pay it Forward. I've never seen it, but it looks pretty good. I think that I'll watch it soon. 🙂

That's the one 👍😜.
I knew you'd have known or seen it. Old, but very nice. Especially loved how that kid acts. Seen him in a couple other movies. Unfortunately, he did not do that good growing up.

That story really shows how quickly a casino session can get out of control when you keep chasing losses.
The lady on the bus was incredibly kind too. That $20 probably meant much more than just getting home that day.

We usually have about $30,000 in chips at the table—give or take. These chips are kept in a tray and a small Plexiglas box next to it. The box isn't locked; it’s just there for us to use if we need more chips. There’s usually about $25,000 in the box and the remaining $5,000 in the tray.It was an especially busy day, and there was an unattended table with chips. So, a random customer walked up and grabbed the box full of chips that sits next to the tray. No one noticed; he had $20,000 in his hands. But he got greedy. He tried to grab the tray, too. These trays are connected to the casino tables... and then a glorious spectacle unfolds. So, he puts down the box and grabs the tray. The tray shoots out—snapping the wires—and the chips, for ****'s sake, go flying everywhere. Now everyone is looking. (It’s a pretty small casino.) He grabs a handful of chips—maybe around 40 of them—and bolts out the door.Amidst all the chaos and everything else, he manages to dash out the door. In most casinos, purple chips are among the most valuable ones in existence (perhaps worth $500, $1,000, or $5,000). So, naturally, that’s exactly what the guy thought, too.

I would usually lose at the casino, but in my case, I could always take a taxi home, where I’d get the money to pay the fare. Although, quite often, I would take that same taxi right back to the casino to keep playing.
