Psychologists, pediatricians, and experts on gambling addiction tend to believe that toy slot machines may carry hidden risks and lay the groundwork for actual addiction in the future.
Even though the toy does not use real money, it effectively replicates the psychological mechanisms that underpin adult gambling.
Do you think such toys for children do more harm than good?

A phone or a tablet given to a too young child makes more harm than that toy ever will.

Are toy slot machines just harmless fun, or could they teach kids to enjoy the thrill of chance and rewards? 🤔

It doesn’t mean every child who plays with one will gamble later. But it’s an interesting question: Could the games we play as children shape how we see gambling as adults?

That is interesting thought. And I find it possible. But whose to say which way it will turn to?
Just like a child who has to grow up with an alcoholic parent. It might go either way.

I think it depends on how it’s presented. As a toy it seems harmless, but I can see why people worry about the gambling-style rewards

IMO, the answer is a clear yes.

I think everything we do as children, especially things that we repeat or practice for an extended amount of time, play a crucial part in the constitution of our personality and have a huge impact of what gets stored at the subconscious level.

What I'm sure about is that I would always avoid buying such a thing for a kid, mine or not. There are so many toys out there, some of which could be very instructive and beneficial.
