Had a bit of a puzzler at video poker today (Aces & Faces on 888).
Off my 'A' game (think I got the COVID), so had to think about this one with the tempting 3 to a straight flush.

What would you have held??

Holding the pair of 7s is best, by quite a margin - glad to say that's I went with - but didn't improve to a win😆

I’d probably get tempted by the straight flush draw too 😂 good thing you stuck with the pair of 7s

In that kind of game, going for the straight flush is the best decision IMO, unless there were 3 sevens up there.

Any small pair has higher priority.
I would keep the pair of sevens.

In this case, keeping the two 7s offers the greatest potential profit.
If the 9 were also a hearts, it would be worth trying to go for a straight flush; with four cards of the same suit, it’s easier to be tempted to do so, since you’d only need one more card.

gambling for the big win Sami😆 I did think about holding the prettier 3 cards, but more profit in holding the 2x 7s.

I dont really play video poker but yeah looks like keeping the pair of sevens was a good decision. Very tempting to draw to a straight flush.

There's also a little info I didn't have. Was that a Jacks or better game or not? Because that would change the way we look at things.

Honestly, I don't even know that game. So, you got paid for any pair (apparently)?
No, it's still a Jacks or better game (i.e you need a pair JJ or better). Quads, straight flush etc. pay a bit different.

Aces or Faces..

The point is it is considerably more profitable (in both games) to hold 77 and draw to two pair plus compared to chasing with the 765s.
