You lose, but somehow it doesn’t feel like a normal loss. Two symbols match, the third one lands just beside it and you’re like damn, I almost had it.

That “so close” feeling can get pretty exciting and makes you wanna spin again.

Ever had this happen to you?

I guess that's one of the factors or algorithms used in casinos to make you play more.
yeah that’s possible, those near-misses definitely make you feel like another spin might be worth it

Yeah, those near-misses can really mess with your head. Seeing two matching symbols and the third land right beside them gives you that feeling of “I was so close,” even though it’s still a loss.
That excitement can definitely make you want to spin again, which is exactly why it’s important not to confuse a near-miss with being closer to a win.

OFC, that's the lure of gambling. That is to make people believe that they can be lucky enough or skillful enough to win & win & profit from the games. It is ofc possible but the chances are very very low.

I think this has happened to 99% of players. But the real secret is playing with discipline—that is far more important than anything else.

lol true, PLO can humble you real quick when you think you’ve got it figured out.

No that doesn't happen to me. Actually i get even more upset when I hit a near miss because it was very close to a actual win and i dont like to get teased.

Yeah, I get that, being so close to a real win probably makes it even more frustrating when nothing comes of it.

There's no such thing as "Almost Winning"

Yeah, I agree, technically it’s still a loss even when the symbols look so close. That’s a good way to look at it.

Not technically, it is an absolute loss.

I think near-wins are so impactful because our brain focuses on how close we came to winning, rather than the fact that we lost. When two symbols combine and the third one almost completes the combination, the illusion is created that victory is just around the corner. I've experienced this feeling, especially on slot machines. The hard thing to remember is that each round is independent and that being close to winning doesn't mean the next one will be more likely to pay out. That's what makes near-wins so psychologically interesting!

IT'S STILL A LOSS, SO I DON'T PLAY THOSE GAMES OF CHANCE LOL

I think near-misses feel like almost winning because they make us believe that a big win is just around the corner. When the symbols are really close to matching, it creates excitement and makes us want to try again.

It happens to me every time. But since I can't afford to spend more than my limit, the game ends regardless.

That’s a good way to look at it. Near-misses can mess with your head, but they don’t make the next spin any more likely to win.

Primarily dopamine is for the anticipation of the next thing, so 'near misses' may make a human organism feel they are getting close to something big.

They are a mechanical feature of these games, so better for punters to be aware of this.

That’s a good point, dopamine makes the anticipation feel exciting. Knowing how near-misses work helps us avoid getting pulled into another spin.
