I agree with your parents ... you're too young to get involved in games with real values ​​... however try to talk to them for the poker as paralela..diga activity involving studies and you can devote at 2, and that will lead the studies in the first place ! Try switching their heads about poker , and so , over time , you can get support them !! Good luck and play poker just for fun, not money , this universe is more complex than it looks!

Everybody thinks they are a future wsop champ. Go to school. Get an education. Play poker on the side with money you can afford to lose (once you get a job and can support yourself). I'm not sure what having a photographic memory will do for you in poker but the world is filled with stories of young kids who thought they were the next poker champ who wound up losing more than they could afford to lose. And as somebody said, if you think playing an online simulator is anywhere near live poker, you have a whole lot more to learn.

If you're really that good at poker you should be good with weighing up expected value: so which is better in the long run? Having your parents buy you a car and help with your college fees, or playing poker for the next couple of years?

Here's the thing: you already know that the car and college fees are worth more to you, otherwise you wouldn't be on here complaining that your parents are threatening to take them off you.

Well until you can buy a car and pay for college through poker then you are probably better off accepting their offers.

Personally, I think poker is better as a hobby for 99% of players. Maybe you have the potential to be the 1% but at least recognise it is a far bigger gamble than shoving 27o pre... think twice about it being your only option...

Take these next 2 years to learn the game, read some poker strategy books, at 16 you DO NOT possess the skills required, poker takes years to learn how to play it effectively, at 16 can you say you have years of experience.

I doubt it, I've been playing some form of poker for 40+ years, and why do you think I am a member of CardsChat, I'm a member because I know the info I find here will help to make me a better player.

Personally, i'v played poker before i turned 18, and kept playing poker throughtout my studies...I'm 27 now broski and still studying and i think that poker was my biggests distraction. I'v never took a cent out of my pocket to make a deposit, so i'm not considering myself a gambler but it definitely took me some time.
Don't get me wrong, we all enjoy playing poker and hanging out here etc but i think that it's not worth of losing a car and a great chance to make a successful future, don't just throw that away, at least reconsider... Cheers!

The poker rooms will not pay you out, if you were not 18, when you signed in. Just study and start playing in 2 years.

Hey buddy. I'm a kid that started playing for money at 15 and made a lot of money. If you can take one thing from my experience, than It'll be worth it.

I'd always wanted to play poker for a living and had a talent for it as well. Made a few thousand dollars online from it when I was in High School. However, poker is a lot more than just winning some online cash games. The big stakes are all about the experience in games and what you've seen. While they may not want you to play, this would be a good time to learn as much as you can about the game.

Watch the good players and how they play. Read books on living a poker lifestyle. Study what it really takes to make poker a major part of your life. It's not just the game, it's the kind of things you need to know on how to be successful. Learn all that you can so that you know if it's right for you. I would definitely suggest books, because that's what helped me learn what I needed to know.

As far as your family, the best you can do is respect their wishes as much as you can until you truly know if this is something for you. There's tons of games you can play for free to practice.

I wish you the best of luck my friend. I'm now playing semi-professionally after 8 years playing in the circuits, including 2 1/2 years in Las Vegas in small stake tournaments. What I would say to you is stop playing, do what they want you to do for the time being, but download or buy some poker books and watch pokerstars.tv etc in the meantime. As other people said, it will still be here in a few years, and you will still be gaining knowledge about it.

Just play poker with your friends around, don't play real money in poker whom you don't know to avoid consequences. And when you grow 18, you will be ready to go anywhere you want to play poker into Live casinos(poker), online poker, and even in the WSOP, who knows you will be the youngest player would be a Champion in WSOP. Every poker player's dream!

Its a tough one and completely your decision!
Why do your parents believe playing it is an issue? Are you staying up all night allowing it to effect your school work?
I know when I started gambling my mother didnt approve but once she knew I wasnt going crazy throwing money down the drain and actually saw me win a few times, she chilled out. Plus it was my own money I was gambling with

Unless you felt it was your deepest desire to become a poker professional and nothing else will satisfy you. Then who am I to say you are wrong to follow your dreams!
But just keep in mind that your parents only want the best for you, dont argue with them because of it, understand where they are coming from!
If my kid was good at poker and wanted to keep playing I would probably allow it once it wasnt effecting his/her school work (play at the weekends) and maybe give him/her a limit that I can keep an eye on and make sure he/she isnt getting themselves into debt.
At the same time most pro's are probably skilled in some other field that was their day job before dedicating all their time to poker. If in the end you discovered professional poker wasnt for you, you may regret not having a degree to fall back on. Whatever you decide, I wish you well

I know it's hard to stop thinking in poker when your parents forbid it to me constantly passed me, I play almost secretly. But if your parents have to pay you a car and the university have to assess that, not many have someone pay them their studies and others. They are good your parents

Time is money. but we dream to make them too quickly so you should not rush things but nothing is impossible good luck guy.

I am in a situation close to you. I just turned 18 and my parents don't really like me playing but as long as I do good in school they don't say much

Honestly not much u can do at 16 in poker anyway. Go to school, get the car, hang out with girls you will thank me later. Poker will be there when u turn 18.

You can always go to school and play poker at the same time. School is based on a schedule right? so make a schedule for poker too. Go through the tournament list and note down the time they start daily. They usually always start at the same time.
Poker can be evil by letting it control you by making you log in randomly and ignore all the other important things in your life. You want poker as a career? then act on it as such. Make it like your second job. Poker is like a muscle. It needs other things besides exercise to build. You get me? Hope this helps

Poker is not a whole life! Poker is only a part of life. I studied, working hardly now, living with my spouse and enjoying about poker at freetime.

My daughters played at 16 in europe. Made enough money to pay for college. I would guess you are in US so that will not work for you. They were playing live and lying about their age.

It is good that there is passion, but also can not forget about life. The person should be diversified. One can not live poker. So just in case, the highest can not hurt but only help. If the poker craze delivers native concerns, it may just not worth it to them to show? Or to show that they are interested in not only that there are other worthy sostalyayuschee future. After all, they are just worried about you. And do not blame them for not understanding poker, everyone has their own interests and their vision of the world. It is necessary to find compromises.
