You can tell from the pre-registration what the approximate balance is. They have done this long enough to know that the last day gets the highest percentage of last minute entries. My motto would have been better safe than sorry and I would have been moving people around. Why have a day 1 with less than a 1000 people - I thought that long before the final day ever rolled around. They should shoot for some kind of balance - even leaving the last day with the fewest to start, having most already started in the first 3 days and leaving the last day to fill up from the satellites and last minute registrations. I would have cut pre-registration for that day off at about 500.

They expected about 2200 people, which is WAY more than the other days. And they planned for almost 600 extra people. They obviously should have worked something out somehow, but it was ridiculous to expect that so many people would come.

The point is: if you want to play, preregister because you can't be sure the wsop will seat you.

Agree'd...
They need to close registration 2 hours before the event starts or at least 2 minutes... Each person needs to be in an autofill format and be selected for days as a first come first serve.... Or stop the registration a couple days before the event, and allow people to move their starting days from here.

500 people were not able to get into the main event on Day 1d.. Day 1d was just a total mess.

Play inside the Amazon Room got underway smoothly but out in the hallway the tension was brewing. About 500 people were shut out of the Main Event due to the tournament already reaching capacity earlier in the morning. WSOP Commissioner Jeffrey Pollack held a meeting with the angry would-be players to offer apologies and to announce the final decision that no more players would be allowed to register.
Unfortunately the Amazon Room was not immune to controversy either. Players who drew table 90 in the orange section arrived to find they had drawn the same table as Phil Ivey and would be moved to a feature table. When Ivey arrived he insisted he did not want to be at a feature table and his request was honored. The other eight players were more than a little irritated since playing at a feature table entitled them to about $10,000 in sponsorship money from various companies as well as the chance to be part of the broadcast.

Not wanting to be at a feature table did not stop the cameras from converging on Ivey's table. He was eating when they showed up and he asked that they not film him while he was eating, causing the cameras to leave and not return until after the dinner break.
At another table some chips were shipped to the wrong player. The floor was called, the tapes were reviewed and it was determined the wrong player had been given the chips. The chips were then given to the rightful winner.

Possibly the biggest blunder of the day belonged to Leroy Soesman, who showed up to play only to discover he had registered for Day 1a, not Day 1d. Soesman was left scrambling with some staff members to see if his stack made it through his correct day of play without being blinded off. Theoretically Soesman would have had enough big blinds in his starting stack to survive the first day of play.

It is now a possibility that a player who could not figure out what day he registered for could be the next Main Event champion.

WOW, so many screw ups this year... There were a few big name pros that missed this year because of the Day 1D sell out. One of them being Patrick Antonious!

Bad news for hungarians.
Event 54: "Selindek" dropped out on 2nd day with a huge misfortune.
He was in button position with KK. Everybody threw so he raised preflop. The BB reraised...then all in, he called (still preflop) and showed AA... :-/

Problem with the wsop today though is as Doyle said..."the games changed from what it used to be" which he aimed at how he got knocked out. Its a random game lol but the first payout of $8,546,435 cannot be too bad to go for! lol. Id love to play this one day though, perhaps see Phill Hellmuth have a fit about losing live! lol

Yeah but PH still has some of the most lifetime success of anyone in the ME, along with people like Johnny Chan, Stu Ungar, and Dan Harrington. In recent years Matusow has been amazing too.

vanq's 5 steps to WSOP success:

-enter a televised WSOP event
-dress up like a major toolbox
-act completely insane and yell loudly and call tiffany michelle a fat schoolteacher, to make sure you get shown on TV as a complete nutcase, open shove 63o preflop against the tightest of players and suck out
-get sponsored by FT or stars
-get your entry paid for every tournament and play solid, TAG poker

Guess ESPN takes whatever they can get. Tobey Maguire makes a point of hiding himself the entire time and there's only so much of Ray Romano, Jason Alexander and that other guy that the public can take. Plus Erna usually runs deeper than all the other aforementioned C-listers.

Still an awful band though.

I think it was 2 years ago that ESPN went celeb crazy and it wasnt until Sam Simon was the last celeb to go that we started to see any poker players.

Never watched Seinfeld after seeing one episode, nobody knows Raymond let alone have an opinion of him here, and Godsmack :confused::confused:

Go James Akenhead - Brit boy :top:

I watched the feature table last night that had Elky and Joe Hachem on it. There was a lot of action while I was watching but none of it involved them. There was a European guy named Klaus who had a big group of friend sitting next to me. They moved a new guy named Mike to the table and he was short stacked with about 50k in chips. He shoved all in and Klaus called with 99 - Mike had 66. He hit a 6 on the river and Klaus tilted so bad for the rest of the time I watched. He lost another hand not long after. He had a hoodie on and between that and his sunglasses you could only see the center of his face lol.

I watched Dan Harrington, Jason Alexander and a few others as well. I will post pics in the Las Vegas trip report thread. Even the one of Humberto Brenes kissing me lol.

This whole penalty thing is just one giant level right? Please tell me this is a level. It's gotta be a level, lol

The saddest thing is after rulings I've seen in some casinos I truly can't rule it out
