I didn't much about this guy but he is an amazing player and I have had to watch a lot of his games, also it's like most of the former pro's ain't doing well recently, most of them are really struggling in my view to change or get away from older strategies

Adrian Mateos has definitely impressed me as well. Adrián Mateos has been one of the most consistent high-stakes tournament players for years, and what stands out most is his ability to adapt. poker strategy evolves constantly, and the players who remain at the top are usually the ones who keep studying and adjusting rather than relying on what worked in the past.

I agree that some older pros seem to have struggled with the modern game. The rise of solvers, advanced data analysis, and much tougher competition means that experience alone is no longer enough. Many strategies that were highly profitable 10 or 15 years ago can be exploited today if they aren't updated.

What I respect most about players like Mateos is their willingness to keep learning despite already having enormous success. In poker, staying ahead often depends less on what you knew yesterday and more on how quickly you can adapt to what the game looks like today.

True and even when you adapt you might lose your touch.
Negreanu already lost 700K during the wsop. I know its not really money for him. But noticeable that he only cashed in one single Mtt of the series so far

In Europe he is a superstar. 49 FT in EPTs and 7 EPT titles. At GG he got over 30M$ in MTT winnnings

25kfantasy melted his brain. He's been totally punting to maximize fantasy points ROI with minimal effort/time.

You'd think given that he'd crack the top 10 like deeb, arieh or foxen (3 other high volume POY grinders) but he's not even listed in the top 100 lol

That and it seems he'd rather be a golf vlogger than a poker player

Speaking of Mateos, I don't think he's even making a play for POY and is grinding cashes and hes still #35.
Poker wikipedia is super outdated and goofy. Who cares what his highest WSOP main event place is? Dude has 3 Triton titles and 23 million in cashes in Triton events.

To me he's the best! A great result like this one on the WSOP was the only thing that was left for him

I think that's a fair point. Poker keeps evolving, and strategies that were crushing the games 10 or 15 years ago are often no longer enough today. The newer generation studies solvers, ICM, population tendencies, and exploits at a much deeper level.
What impresses me most is when experienced pros are willing to adapt instead of relying only on what worked in the past. The players who keep learning usually stay competitive, while those who refuse to adjust can quickly fall behind.

He has been playing high rollers and putting out good results for the last 10- 15 years at least. He's not new in the ecosystem of poker. But he doesn't play anything else- no PLO, no mixed games. Alex Foxen has been playing PLO and a few mixed games more recently. Scott Seiver has been playing mixed games forever. Not to mention players like Phil Ivey or Nick Shulman or Brian Rast. I don't know if you can say about a player he is one of the best when he only plays NLH. But he has very good results in High Rollers.

I agree. Adrián Mateos has proven to be one of the most complete and consistent players today. What amazes me most is not only the number of titles he has won, but his ability to adapt to the constant changes of modern poker.

Many old-school players were hugely successful in their time, but the game has evolved a lot. Nowadays there is more study, more data analysis and much more advanced strategies. Those who don't update end up being left behind.

Mateos, on the other hand, always seems to be one step ahead. It combines experience, discipline and a great capacity for learning, something essential to remain in the elite for so many years.
