There have been some mentions of women (who comprise a much smaller percentage of players than men) not making final tables enough - but this is largely a cliche.
Anyone who has followed the recent careers of
Kristin Bicknell ($5,815,717 Hendon Mob, with another win at the
wsop)
Maria Lampropulus ($3,377,913 Hendon Mob) would beg to differ.
Not to mention those who cited the main event obviously do not pay attention.
Wenling Gao the player who came second in this years WSOP Main Event was a female player...she won $ 2,748,605 as runner up.
I am sure intuition plays some role but think that the rise of these female players is more to do with women getting more and more comfortable with the game. It is presumed many more women play online than live in order not to deal with chauvinism but I think the recent successes of those above will spur many women into the live game.
Women have done increasingly well in the game- Victoria Coren Mitchell, Maria Ho, Vanessa Rousso, Liv Boeree and Vanessa Selbst et al but I anticipate we could be at a turning point where those on line players could also start to play more live games (after Covid 19 is contained) and the female profile in the game might grow in leaps and bounds.
There was a natural progression of male players who learned and played online moving into the live game - I hope females follow suit.
