Ideas suggestions please

Avoid at all costs. Play only when not with your spouse to avoid this exact situation entirely. Or promise to buy them something with your winnings from the tourney

you have to be willing to be a participant in the process...because this going to take a bit of doing on your part. Dude..you thought folding pocket Aces preflop on the BB after the entire table has bet into you 1/3rd your chip stack and no ones folded off..............I MEAN DUDE...you going to have'tuh man up on this and be willing to .........

Getting a "feel" for what triggers responses from them?
So you can ....ADJUST...your play?

As Mateo rightly said - "Avoid at all costs". That's exactly briefly the point! So how you do that?
1) Try not to give your spouse a reason for arguing. (That helps not only your poker game, but relationships with her/him either.)
2) Talk with her/him about it before you start to play. You have to find right words to explain, that it's critical for your success at poker game, that you are not being distracted during a session. And she/he should give you talks-free time, during that.
3) You may use headphones, for example, to not give even a chance to talk with you during session. (You won't hear a word anyway. )
4) If nothing listed above helps, stop all your cash games immediately, when you feel that your spouse's emotions are heating up or she/he turns to talk mode and your requests "to talk later about" don't seem to work. If you are playing tournaments, well too bad. Try to avoid arguing and maybe headphones help again. For the next time plan your Tournament games at other time, when you most likely not being distracted by your spouse. (Maybe when she/he at work or go shopping.)


p.s. But i think to manage first two options is the best way to handle with this problem actually.

Thanks for the advice Terry love it I will be getting headphones and take your two suggestions on board alienat3d just number 1 is tricky after 10 years and 2 screaming kids my lovely lady gets annnoyed by the way I breathe air sometimes lol cheers for the comedy Krissi77 might show her that picture the next time she gets irrational sometimes arguments about poker Dakota mostly mundane domestic bliss stuff hope it does not end up in divorce Zorba as love my partner and children do not want to end up a 1 or 2 day a week mcdonalds Daddy lol thanks again.

Oh - just noticed you are in Dublin. If your Irish wife is anything like my husband's ex Dublin wife there is no hope for you.

Learn how to say yes, no or maybe in the right places while blocking out her voice so she thinks you are listening to her, have at least one night off from playing poker to spend some time together and finally give her control of the tv remote while you are playing so she thinks she's won the argument before it even starts.

Playing while distracted is not optimal. Here are my sugesstions:


Just say yes to everything, they are always right


Send them out shopping


Headphones


Ductape and hand handcuffs

Or in hopeless situation send them back where they came from

Tell your wife to shut up and leave you alone when playing poker. Also don't let the game consume you ...playing for more than 6 hours daily is excessive.

Yes kind of feel Dakota right about the hope thing and the remote darn she can keep that once I got my laptop but thanks again all maybe yes play a little bit less and I do take days off of course tried that yelling back shut up leads to escalation of drama maybe will just use disarming technique tell her I love her or something lol

Find her a boyfriend, that will fix everything. And it just may teach her a life lesson at the same time. Fixed it for me.

I have a drama free life. I stay out of answering other's drama questions as well.

My advice is you can't be around her during tourneys or whatnot...she will break u and it will be your fault lol

I'll try to be serious here as I share your pain

If she doesnt understand poker then just show her your current position and the prize pool and fool her that this time its serious, you are a step away from big money. If you are a good bluffer she could mute even the kids!


On the other hand, if she is on her period, sit out for the rest of the tourney, let your chips blind out, stop breathing and just play dead.
