am i a criminal

i am reading all the time about legal olp efforts for usa players, i also read that it is legal to play olp. i also read that some of the sites that offer olp now to usa players will not be able to for five years after new laws are passed. so am i breaking the law by playing now and is my money safe on these sites if new laws are passed??

To be honest i asked myself the same thing. I actually live in Washington where a few years ago no sites allowed me to play on them with putting in my Washington adress. But now any site allows it. Which makes no sense. I even talked to a Lock guy and he said they arent turning away anybody in the US. Just seems a little fishy. Especially since its a felony here in Washington

Actually, Washington State players can only play on two Networks at this time, Revolution (which includes Lock Poker) and Poker Pros Network

I've wondered this ever since I started playing again after US players got banned. But carbon poker answered my question and so far my money have been safe and my first withdrawal was sucessful. We will see what happens in the future tho.

when carbon answered you what did they tell you.i was really hoping to get an answer other than people wondering the same thing. is it legal or illegal for us to play olp?

Playing OLP has never been "banned" or illegal in the US, save for a very few states that enacted specific legislation against it. Washington state, Louisiana, and Kentucky are the ones that come to mind, IIRC. But there is and never has been a federal law that prohibits online gaming, least of all poker.

i am still confused , if it has been banned or illegal, and there is no federal law against it then who banned it and who made it illegal.how can it be illegal if there is no law stating so

The way this question is posed "Am I a criminal?" is hilariously frightening. Total "1984" right before our eyes. Know one knows what is illegal because generally, nearly everything a person can do is illegal these days. But don't fret because all is well.
Like most things "Illegal" in the NWO/UN/USA mind-control machine, its all a matter of "Enforcement". Yes OLP is illegal in most US states but its not really being enforced atm. Likely due to budget cuts and an over crowded prison system already bursting at the seems. Please GOD help us.........

yes it is legal to play online poker in usa.
just in some states its illegal.
but that is being worked on to.
sooner then later i hope.
you are not a criminal for playing poker.
playing poker online or off is not a crime or a sin.

I don't wear a seat-belt sometimes, and sometimes I talk on a cell phone while driving.......am I a criminal?

Also the UIGEA didn't ban players from playing poker. But it did get the bigger poker sites to close their doors b/c of the hoops they have to jump through to service us here in the states.

Again, re-read my post that you replied to. Playing online poker has never been banned or made illegal at the federal level. UIGEA had nothing to do with players, in fact UIGEA did not rule any form of gaming legal or illegal, it only made the processing of funds in connection with any form of gambling already deemed illegal by any other legislation. The DOJ liked to use the Wire Act as its basis for the UIGEA applying to OLP, but in fact they themselves came out after Black Friday and stated that the Wire Act does not apply to OLP (which many of us had been arguing for years, since it was written way before the internet was invented and specifically addresses interstate sports betting).

depends on which states u live....and depends on the bills from ur states...since you play is mostly OK but if it is illegal poker room should let u know in advance....

I figure by USA law spirits....if the poker room does not warn u in advance, it is all there fault...

My "no it isn't" response was in reply to "it's technically illegal in most states." As has been posted, OLP is only illegal in a small number of states. Maybe 3-4 or so.

I'm still not sure what you're not sure about. We've been very clear. Let me try again, keeping in mind the exception of those very few states:

THERE ARE NO FEDERAL LAWS AND VERY VERY FEW STATE LAWS MAKING IT ILLEGAL TO PLAY OLP.

NO OLP PLAYER HAS EVER BEEN PROSECUTED OR EVEN CHARGED FOR PLAYING AT A FEDERAL LEVEL (AGAIN, BECAUSE THERE ARE NO FEDERAL LAWS AGAINST IT). Can't speak for those few states that have specifically outlawed OLP, I think I remember reading of one case awhile back.

Can we make it any clearer? There are no holes there. If you don't live in a state that has expressly -- within the last few years -- passed legislation to outlaw OLP (Kentucky, Washington State, and Louisiana immediately come to mind), then you are not breaking any laws whatsoever by playing OLP.

ok i just went and counted there is alot more states (somwhere around 30)that it is legal, the rest are maybe and say continue with caution this is just the 48 states, and i want to add that no one ever has been prosecuted for online gambling

It's mostly "Common Wealth" States where it is illegal to "gamble" with out proper licenser. Which are never issued to any entity. Hopefully they get it sanctioned nationally and these lone states amend their laws accordingly. The other option is "Enforcement" in those states and none of us want to see that.

Do you have any links to the laws regarding OLP in those 3 states mentioned? Or how could I find them myself? I'm particularly interested in Kentucky.
My google searches give pages of different sites claiming they offer legal online poker sites specific for residents of Kentucky but none are official websites. Also on Kentucky's own site I couldn't find anything about the laws you mentioned.
I also have heard about them passing those laws numerous times from a variety of sources. Weird its not on Ky's own websites.
