Best Material for Poker Table

Me and my friends are building a poker table. What is the best material for the top of the table? I have heard velveteen, speed cloth, and gaming suede. What are the pros and cons of each?

hey tnichs, can't really comment on the ones you have indicated however i know a buddy of mine that built a table and used car seat type fabric, turned out really nice. I know some if you are planning to play alot although they may look good could get nobby.

I like speed cloth for your typical pass the deal home game because the cards really slide on it very easily.

Thanks guys. Some more info we'd be playing on this said table a lot b/c we're starting to film a poker youtube channel so we need something that will stand up for a long time, looks nice, and is stain resistant.

Use the veleteen. Buy a nap shaver at Bed Bath and Beyond to shave the fabric when it gets nobby.

This is 100% why you shouldn't use the velveteen. If the youtube thing is something you're going to devote a lot of time / money into I'd actually go with a custom dyed gaming suede with a logo you design for your channel.

I used velveteen on a small table I built a while back. It is a pain in the ass. There is so much nap you have to brush off. I later used some really nice speed cloth and it was so much better. It's easier to toss cards, maintain, and clean. Spend a little extra and you won't regret it.

It looks like speed cloth is the winner! My only question is where would we get this said cloth and what if I don't want the suits on it?

All speed cloth has suits on it. As for where to get it just google it.

Suede worked best for a friend of mine. If you are only going to use it not that often.

I am using Micro Suede on mine, works wonders, 3 years and going now... I assume if you play on it pretty often, I could recommend buying a casino purposed felt, which can be found all over the net for some half decent prices.
