Best poker book

I'm going this weekend to buy a poker book. I'm thinking about picking up "Super System" to just get back into the basics and that is the "bible" of all poker books. But I want to get one that might be a little smaller and will have more of an updated look at the game.

If "Super System" is it, then I'm buying that one. But what are other good ones? I've read Phils Book, It's an old one and also TJ and McEvoys Books (2 of them) but I read parts of "Super System" not the whole book. I heard there's a part two, should I buy both or is one enough.

Any help would be great.

SS NL chapter doesnt really apply to the loose AG/PA online play,more for tight passive 200BB deep cash games.
So if your thinking about SS for the NL chapter u probably be better of geting some thing else,that said the other chapters of SS still mostly apply since there hasnt been such drastic change to Razz,Stud,Omaha,5card draw ect as Holdem.

Its also dificult to recament a book with out knowing what your playing.

I seen the list, I would like to know the good ones.

Basically I play more NL Hold em. I like the other games but I enter NL Hold em MTTs, SNGs and some cash games. What would be the top 3 best books to get right now.

(Thanks for sending me to Aliengenius Posts, there's a lot of good books there but I need to have it narrowed down a bit.)

Gordons little green book. Great book to read. It flowed much easier than Harringtons and was full of great info.

It's also available as an audio book, which is nice.

Super Systems 1 and 2 are both great books, and the best ones I have read on the the subject. However I havent really been reading as much pokerbooks as I probably should have. Gus Hansen "every hand revealed is quite good book too. Good for tournament poker.

I have read Hrrington and Gordons. Loved them both. Waiting for gordons little blue book to arrive. I would recommened Gordons little green book to all, as stated before it does flow nicely and has tons of information in it..

Harrington on Hold 'em is pretty much the bible on TAG tournament play, well worth a read.

I got a lot out of Killer Poker - No Limit by Vorhaus. It's very good for analysing your own game and making improvements, regardless of the level you're at, and it applies almost equally to cash games and tournaments.

Phil Gordon's Little Green Book and Little Blue Book are solid reads if you really want to get back to basics. They're very much basic / beginner texts though.

If you play live a copy of Read 'em and Reap by Joe Navarro can't hurt either - squillion times better than Caro if you want to learn about tells in casino NLHE games.

As for Super System (one or two - the NLHE section is pretty much the same in both), if all you're playing is NLHE I wouldn't bother. Yes it still has some useful info, but pretty much every important point on no limit is covered in the Harrington and Vorhaus titles mentioned above. I'd only shell out for it ahead of other books if you're looking for something that will help improve your stud and lowball games as well.

focused exclusively on 9-handed single table SNGs, but the only poker book you ever need to buy if that's your game.

Professional No Limit Hold'em Vol 1 is also very good and you don't have to be advanced to get a lot out of it.

My favorite poker book is Gus Hansen's - Every Hand Revealed. Book on tournamnet poker that uses a modified Small Ball strategy. Great read, with lots of detail.

If you just want to read the text of Super System 2 without the illustrations, go to Doyle's Room poker site and you will find all the chapters there.

The Poker Player's Bible by Lou Kreiger is a great starting out book.

Gives great starting hands charts for most games

I would get a book by Sklansky & Malmuth if I were you. I've been reading a lot of poker books lately, and most of them just offer you their strategic advice - whereas Sklansky & Malmuth give you the conceptual building blocks to construct your own advice.

For example: most poker books expect you to post their starting hand chart next to your computer, but Sklansky & Malmuth teach you a system with wich you can evaluate certain hole cards in certain circumstances yourself.

I now feel that "recipy book" poker material is a waste of time ...

I don't know if I'm too late in my input, but I'd go with Harrington on Hold'em as my first option since it's relatively up-to-date and gets into basics. I also like the Little Green Book as others have mentioned. I have this book as an audio file and also got an autographed copy when I made a donation to the Prevent Cancer Foundation (just go to their website and search "bad beat on cancer" and you can get an autographed version of the book. I'm not sure if this offer is still up but Gordon donated several hundred autographed goods).
