Card Protectors...

Who here has these and what are they of? What do they mean to you if anything? I'd like to get one maybe.

I have several and always use one when I play live. Some players just use a chip from their stack to protect their cards but I prefer having something else.

You definitely need to use something - your cards could get mucked if you don't.

I wonder if you could get a tell from someone using these protectors...

Example One:
Cards dealt, guy (to your left) looks at his cards, doesn't put the protector on them knowing he will fold, basically tells you he will throw em away.

Example Two:
Same thing, but puts the protector on his hand knowing he likes it and will def. call, maybe raise....

it is common used play live poker.

the reason is going to be like these,
if for some chance, you are dealt with AA, the player next to u , throw his holdings by mistake to your cards, in these case, you had no way to declare you have AA.

but if you put a protector, eg a coin something, you won't mixture you holdings with others.

there are some....uncommon protector...eek

I think mostly are coins, chips..

[don't need to get one, use chips to cover cards is fine]

That is why I put mine on my cards every single hand unless I am UTG.

Throw on a protector and good to go ............

Throw this in a chip case and good to go for a nice card protector at the live poker table, great way to advertise cc

I usually just use a chip, although i have a pstars card protector that i used for a while (probably don't know if I could find it now TBH).

Or don't look at your cards until action is on you. That was something that I was taught when I first started playing tournament poker.

Always have used a card protector (photos of current one in my chip porn posts in my thread) as I never could get the hang of riffling chip stacks plus I like to keep my stacks neat. Mine is a $20 cheapie I got in Vegas, it's oversized and heavy and just feels right.

Some people do this and it might work for them but not for me. It can backfire on you. Rather than looking at your cards while everyone else is also looking at theirs - when you wait until it is your turn to act ALL eyes are on you. Plus I prefer to have more time to think about my decision.

I got one from PokerStars. It's a heavy, silver coloured, round piece, like a big chip. It's ok but nothing special though.

From my 5 years of dealing experience, there is a direct correlation between using a card protector and being a D-bag.

Just use a spare chip.

I look at my cards before my action because most eyes are on you when it is your turn. While I am looking at my cards the table action is elsewhere. IMO most tells are immediate and noticed the moment you see your holding. I also look at the other players when flop, turn, and river are dealt. The cards will remain the same but many people react when they hit or miss.

I use a card protector. I have learned from experience that dealers can make mistakes and grab your cards. A circular spark plug gapper has the weight and size that works well. They are cheap at your local autoparts shop.

I cover my cards with my left hand and make my actions with my right. While in theory a card protector would work well, this is just the position I've found, and I'm comfortable in it.

More often that having your hand mucked, what will happen is some player will tilt and throw their cards in the muck carelessly and throw one of them on or near your cards.

I just use a chip off my stack, and keep a hand on my cards if I'm all in. Saves me having to remember to bring a card protector when I come to play.

The moral of the entire post is basically.....it doesn't matter what you use, just make sure you protect your cards.

Its good to use your cips to protect your cards, but be carefull so you dont give a tell to your opponent like u sayd upwards.

I actively try to mix it up when I play live. ie, sometimes I put my card protector on my 82 offsuit, knowing I'm gonna fold when it comes to me

Yep - I have had the dealers muck my hands by accident 2 or 3 times. After the last time I started using a card protector every time I play. If I forget one I will use a chip from my stack vs nothing - but I prefer something different to use.
