Do you think that the cash games in Vegas will be easier or harder when the World Series is on?

I am going to Vegas some time during this year, and would rather go when the games are softer.

I guess during the World Series there will be a lot more pros in town but also more weak amateurs as well, and don't know whether it will be softer or harder than normal overall.

for sure much easier. my reasoning behind this is that there will so many poker players coming, lots of them are amateurs who just wanna experience the tournament. Obviously there are going to be pros, but i think you will be fine playing cash games during tournaments.

I've heard the exact opposite. Had a friend that's been in Vegas for the wsop, he's a rounder and he said the cash games are much harder. You want easy, go during March Madness. That's what mistakenly led me to believe I was any good. :)

Depends on the game. I understand the stud 8 50/100 is soft.

I trust you're going to test this. :)

Only three weeks until your WSOP stud event! I'll be excited to hear how it goes. It's my favorite game.

Why would it be easier in March?

casinos fill up on college guys on spring break betting on the NCAA. They have to exercise their gamble and the poker tables are the rage these days.

They will be easier for sure. Lots of people go now just to be around the tournament.

Don't ever take advice from this friend concerning poker again. :)

Cash games during the WSOP are the best by 1 million percent in Vegas (rest of year is blah as far as I am concerned - compared to say LA and some other loose venues). While you get a good amount of top players that are playing, there are a ton more recreational fish that make the trip for riches or just want to play with the pros. (and a lot of very loose aggressive Cali players show up to make for big loose pots)

And it is not only the Rio that has great ring games during this time, but many other rooms as well. I am partial to Ballys at this time of year if you play 1/2 or 2/5 NL. You really get a good mix of tourist, experienced in this room and it can be a gold mine (a bit loud and crowded though - but I like the atmosphere as well). My blog/site has my favorite poker rooms and LV hotels.

They don't get any harder

They won't be any harder, there are pros and big grinders around but they don't fill up the tables of the various corporations resorts around.
You will just sit down wtih amateurs who want to have fun, chit chat at tables not approaching professionaly the game as well as others of a different level of experience as it is in the norm.

Anytime you have a large gambling event-march madness, superbowl, title fight or wsop it's softer as all the tourist and degen gamblers are there who think they can play poker.
