Cash vs Tournament

I have often heard that hands are played differently in cash games from tournament play. Take some of the top hands like AKs, AA, JJ, AQo. How would these hands be played from the BB, mid and UTG in both cash and tournaments ?

In my opinion too much is made of cash vs tournaments. The big difference is typically everyone is always deep stacked in cash since you can always reload. So you can play more speculative hands. But early in tournaments when everyone is deep stacked hands should be played similarly.

I believe that before the flop there is not much difference in the form played of these hands, the big differential of the cash is the post flop that yes it makes much difference in the tournament and easier to put the possible hands that a player would pay the increase in the cash the range and much larger.

I think the best thing is to have intuition when playing these hands and knowing that you can win chips or money in both circumstances is to make the best game of your position.

Its diferente because in tournaments, there is early and late game, diferente BB's.

A very reliable call sign is the "Limp" move. I would say that 99% or more of regular cash games only use the Small Blind limp, so if you see a player using that move from the other positions, his chance to be recreational is huge! Stay tuned.
The size of the bet can also be a strong call, nowadays almost no regular raise gives more than 3x from any position on the table, so if you see an open raise of 3.5x or higher, it will be very interesting to give a better check in the player, because the chance of it being recreational is very high also.
So I have to analyze a lot of the types of hand that I put into a play, I usually in cash, follow the rules mentioned above, when I am in a tournament, I play most of these hands, without much concern because I consider cards strong to face the opponent

I'm mainly a mtt player but I also play cash. Because I'm so used to tourneys I play cash games like I would deep stacked in a tourney. I am profitable in cash but nowhere near as profitable as my tourneys. I guess I need to learn some more cash strategy to improve this part of my game.

You generally have less BBs in a tournament than you do in a cash game. I believe that is where the difference in play style comes in. In a tournament you have to outlast a certain amount of players to get ITM, while in a cash game you can just reload or top up you stack. In a cash game with 100+ BBs you can play more speculative hands than you could in a MTT.

Different forms are played games, cash or tournament. In tournaments you have to play more aggressively and the cards should be wider because you have to win the tournament. In cash the games are very cautious, you have to have more mental control and the cards well selected. But it's the cash that funds the tournaments.

Tournament poker follows a much more strict game theory approach to poker with consistently applied pressure that comes with increasing blinds and player stacks. If anything I'd say tourney poker has a more constrained range of profitable play styles and cash games you can be a lot more creative.

Cash is play whenver you want and leave whenever you want. Tournaments you are binded until you win or bust... Both is very competitive.

I do not know how for other players but for me it's better to play in the cash game, in tournaments you need to make quick decisions and the rate grows and if the card does not come out right then you leave the tournament, in the cash game you play normally at the same bet and you can exit with the game at any time, even if I played 1 hour or more, and from the tournament do not go out to sit and play to the end and it can last 2 hours and more depending on what kind of tournament and how many players in it!

Game Objective

The reason why hands are played different are.....
In a cash game the main objective of the game is to win as much you can in each hand.

Your money is invested in each hand you play so every win is great and every loss hurts.

In a tournament the main objective of the game is to win enough to make it to the end.
You invest the same money no matter how many hands you play. Losing chips is more acceptable. You make calls and raises purely to eliminate players.

In cash you have the ability to sit back and wait for premium hands. In a tournament getting value and avoiding large mistakes are a must. You can play profitable poker with the same strategies.
