Casinos in New York - Licenses Awarded

New York is on the cusp of building up to four new full scale casinos - not Racinos, not Indian casinos, but rel Las Vegas type brick and mortar casinos. Table games! Craps Tables! Poker Rooms! You name in, they want to have it.

But hold on. New Jersey has 12 (soon to be 8) casinos just like these and they are going belly up!

Can New York do any better than New Jersey?

I don't think NJ will do as well as New York. Alot of traffic that goes to foxwoods and AC is from NY. There will be a casino 20 min from my house now in a year or two and it'll save me the 90 min drive to turning stone.

Same here, I will have a casino within a 10-30 min drive and save me the 2 hr drive to either MS@PD or TS.

NY

I live in long island and I just can not believe that gambling has not come here yet yes we have empire and world resorts but they are mostly slots. NY is loosing Millions to NJ every day because they will not allow NY players to play online I l know at one point they were thinking of doing it at the Nassau coliseum To date the only three sites I can play on are Full Flush Bet On line and ACR I mostly play at full flush and BOL I do think a nice casino would do well depending on the location.

Yep, I have been following this for some time now.

Turning Stone will be empty and I will have a casino 15 min from my house.

It is a little slower than what was proposed, I believe Cuomo said by oct. we would know where.

except for western ny where we have indian casinos and a few racinos...

If/when NY approves casino gambling, that will be the end of AC. New Jersey had a monopoly on the northeast and has just wasted it! They should have opened up other locations, or improved the infrastructure. No reason for anyone in Philly to go to AC and NYC will stop making the drive. That just leaves NJ residents.

Licenses awarded today. Worst pick of the 3 for the Southern Tier gets the license ?!?!?!? Lago wins over Tioga Downs and Traditions. Guess it came down to total $$$ spend as Lago was the most expensive as it would have to build EVERYTHING needed. So this will mean very little change for me as Lago will be as far away as all the others

Was so hoping for Tioga Downs which would have been a 10 min drive.

I can't believe we got Schen to get it. I was hopping Hard Rock @ Rennselear

Itll be 20-25 min for me to get there, which is obviously way better than 90-100 min drive to TS.

But the Hard Rock would have gotten my vote.

Was so hoping for Tioga Downs which would have been a 10 min drive.

Picks were pretty bad for me as well sine the 40 miles option from NYC didn't get a nod. Closest NY casino will now be in the Catskills which is more of a drive from where I am than the trek to PA or CT. These casinos will not change my life at all.

My last hope is that somewhere down the road - hopefully before the next wave is supposed to click in (7 years!!!) the Yonkers racino will exert some influence and get bumped up to a venue that can have table games and poker I am hoping. I can hope but I think this is a long shot!

Tioga Downs did get another crack at a license and was awarded one (still to be granted though). Their casino expansion has been moving along and recently had a topping out ceremony on Monday. Might be playing cards there by the end of the summer!!
