If you had to choose only one to build a bankroll which would it be and why?

1. Cash Game
2. SnG's
3. MTT

I would go with Cash games.

I used to play SnG's but they were way too swingy. Same goes for MTT's.

no offence or anything but I'm not sure what you are talking about..ask anyone who has played ring for a while and they will all tell you its swingy too. All of these games are about the "long run". All of them have different styles and strategies to beat them, all of these games have their swings, its all about what you prefer. Cash game players like to see immediate result, whily MTT players are patient and wait for that "big result". All of these can be profitable with right aprroach: BRM, strategy, solid poker..etc etc. and once again all about that "long run".

I would say SNG especially for small Bankrolls it is to easy to chuck your bankroll in cash games with a big downswing unless your bankroll is large enough for the limit to take such a hit. If you are going to start a bankroll that is below $100 and want to play cash games i would avoid Full Tilt I am not sure if its still the case but their micro limits did not go low enough for such bankroll in the past.

Micro limit SNG are not that hard to make a profit in if you play tight and when you get a big hand you bet big, aswell most of the players at these buyins cannot play heads up they seem to struggle to adjust.

I would personally pick MTTs, just because I love them, always have and always will. They are my money maker and I will stick to that.

You mentioned that all of the games are about "what you prefer". I do believe the terms I used were "I would go...", therefore meaning that is what I would prefer.

I would say cash games because they give you the most control. If you go on tilt just leave. Take a break. If some business comes up you have to take care of just leave. Any tournament forces you to play at that time with those cards and those chips regardless of what your mental or physical shape your in. I like being able to start when I want and leave when I want. Cash games also allow you to get through longer spells of bad cards. Just fold them, theres no reason to get involved if you don't want. If you catch a bad bad run in a tourney theres nothing you can do but bust. But I guess it depends on what type of player you are. Some people just don't so well in cash games, there play is more effective in tournaments. If we can say that the subject is equally skilled in all forms of poker and his style of play is not specifically catered to one form or another, then I say cash game all the way.

It makes me frustrated when someone says talks about "swingy" and doesn't have his facts straight. I'm just saying every single game has swings no matter how good you are.

i was checking stats of some of the players at my table in a mtt last week , some very good players wh high ROI , winning players may go very long streches with out cashing, 1 player had like 170k in year winnings and 40% roi which is pretty good, He went 38 sessions without cashing,thats not winning just cashing. If your trying to build a bank roll, the aggressivness to win deep in a mtt you may not be able to do because your worryed about just cashing,You might get lucky and propel your roll way up tho,I would do a combo of all three and watch what u buy in for,

Either ring of sng providing the limit is in your range. no more than 10% for sng. Play micro ring games until your bankroll is big enough. Most sites are $1 and up for sng. I will usually play a ring game to earn the buyin for a tourney. Ring games are good gor grinders who are looking for steady returns.

for MTTS, play at sites like PS where the payout is usually 20% instead of the 10, which makes it easier to place in the money.

Okay, but you misunderstood my facts. Those two forms are swingy for me. And that is why I said I would prefer cash games.

But I understand what you're saying. All forms of poker have swings one way or the other.

I think it depends on your initial investment. Not only that but how much you are willing to invest afterwards. If you have money behind you I think it is best to play MTT. This makes the process very long and you must be patient. However, on the other hand you can play SNG's and build from there.
My personal preference is SNG because you are risking in short term benefits for your bankroll and can gain consistant play behind your efforts.

i like to play MTT's , but it seems to be hit or miss w/ me.. sometimes i do all right and other times i begin to get tired or bored before the end of the T.. so cash games i can hit up make a few bucks and get out... after a few of times of doing that im usually sitting pretty well..

1. Cash games, primarily because my particular BRM shows the best ROI in those games. Plus, if things are not going well card-wise, I can always get up and leave with the remnants of my stack (and what's left of my dignity

).

I would say to go with whatever type best fits your personality and style.

For me, like more Sits and mtts than rings.

Some times play the rings to reach the bonus points faster, or when dont have time to play 2 or 3 hours mtts and need to get out when i want, but is like the rings dont give me the same emotion like the sits or mtts, the position places and the race for who win in the Mtts and sits make more fun and keep me focus, and that help me to win more than in rings.

Personally I would say sngs to start a bankroll, I myself have started a bankroll from a 10 dollar deposit (after spunking 40 or so dollars). To start with play one table at a time and pick a format you think you would like, for example I played 45 man to start with and played uber tight. I am not saying play this way because its very hard getting to the final table with a decent amount of chips but truth is with a small BR you have to be a nit. I changed to 18 seat games which at Stars can give you a nice return.

Also to note Stars now have 90 seat one dollar games which might be worth a go if you can afford the varience.

SnG's 6 players (33% for getting the money) is how i build up my bankroll,still my fav
after u build it up u will be abale to sit on ather tourneys and try
to maximize your acount.....

Will definitely choose SNG's because It is less risky to loose all the bankroll. Another important thing is bankroll management in tournaments. Have to respect it ALWAYS

i really like cash games. its quick money, but on the other hand can become quickly lost money. really sucks when you have a bad beat, you go on tilt, and than lose all your bankroll bc your so pissed off.

so maybe it is better to do the sng style of play. only spend 1 to 5 dollars each. and who knows. one time out of five you may make some cash. although one thing you do not want to do is pay anything under one dollar. the payout sucks, giving the winner maybe three bucks, total waste of time imo

They'll all work. A bad beat may hurt more in a cash game though. On FTP for example .05/.1 cash game has a max buyin of $10, which I would recommend you ante up to keep from getting run over by the guy who will crush bet a $4 stack all day. That means a bad beat could set you back $10 or more. On a $1 SNG or MTT you will only lose $1.25 if things go wrong. I find it's easier to consistently land in the money on the 9 person SNGs than land deep in the MTTs. You really need 6th or better to make some forward progress in your bankroll in one of those MTTs.

If I had to choose one it would be cash games. From a $/time perspective I can make more money at a cash table than wading through a low stakes tournament. If I played at higher stakes MTT or SNG (or multi tabled) my answer would change.

I would choose a Sit and Go. I play a little conservative. And I hate cash games cause people can keep buying back in and they call will crap. I can't stand that. I like to play, once your out you are out.
