1. Patience.
2. Discipline.
3. Perseverance.
In my opinion, these are the three most important components. Without them, it is impossible to become a good player.

You really need to play a lot to get good at this game.

I believe that it is mandatory to A) Practice as often as possible, B) Mandatory analysis of your hands + theory) C) Physical exercises to help your back and neck withstand long hours of sitting at the table.

I think any sport or profession needs discipline if you have it, you stick to it, then you will soon have success.
