There are several poker variants, such as Texas Hold'em, Omaha, Seven Card Stud, and Rzz. Each one has their own rules and strategies.

The reason there are varieties is player's get bored with the same game. Out of the types, hold em is the easiest to learn. But other varieties, Omaha, for example, it is easier to know when you have the "nuts", a lot more four of a kind, and straight flushes. It is also easier to get a hand you think is the nuts crushed bya better hand.

I have played Omaha a bit. Quite interesting, huge variance. I find it a bit easier to go deep in tournaments with this format though.

I prefer Holdem. Omaha has too many possibilities in a hand and harder to make calculated judgements about your opponents hand.
