Distractions While Playing Online Poker

I play with a few friends in private games and at times get lost in the chat. I have recently realized that if I ignore the chat while playing online poker it helps me stayed focused on my game. So, if I don't respond to chat at the table you know I have hit mute button.

I find that if I'm not focusing on the game starting a chat with someone helps me to focus more as you talking about poker you thinking about poker and nothing else.

I on the other hand have found that the biggest distraction i have is boredom, especially when a tournament seems to just drag on forever, especially if your sitting at a table with a person that takes a while to make a play every single time. I think a lot of them do it on purpose, to try and get others to tilt, me it just bores me to death

yeah well try playing poker with 3 screaming little girls running around behind you. I love my daughters but damn can i get some peace..probably not

HaHa I do the same thing sometimes.

When I really want to focus, I'll click on either the "stats" button on some sites or on Bovada they only have the "notes" button & be on there for awhile. Then occasionally check the chatbox.

Sometimes I'm playing numerous games or tables (up to 14) & I don't have time to talk anyways. & when I do talk, it takes like 2min to type a sentence in hahaha

as someone before said my biggest problem is boredom. I try to play 3-4 tables at least, and I always have Pandora playing with headphones. Music is a must for me

i rarly use the chat window. i only use it to see if a player might be tilting or about to tilt

I always chat a lot. It helps keep me into the games. The hands go so quick online that you rarely have extended downtime.

I find it can go both ways maybe if you strike up a conversation you are glud to the table and not facebook youtube or the tele. Whereas you can also let your guard down or soft play!

I use my big bose headphones when playing online. It keeps me focused because I can only hear the sounds coming from the site. Also playing a few tables at a time helps. I also try to play when people aren't going to bother me.

never chat, when your playing 2 or 3 tables . most off the time its only players ranting about bad play, but that's a fact off life playing online

I find that sometimes I can get off my game if I pay too much attention to chatting. On the other hand, keeping an eye on others chatting can sometimes be used to an advantage if they are talking poker.

Here is how I play online poker with zero distractions. I don't ever use the chat box. Door closed, only me in the room. Noise cancelling headphones with some uplifting music with minimal vocals such as trance. Computer that is only used for online poker (just poker sites and software like PT4 installed). Phone muted. All phone calls or sms (unless emergency) get replied to after my session is over.

But you're supposed to be bored. Watch TV... anything other than playing more hands because you're bored... the way you're supposed to feel.

i usually avoid to chat during the game, it dont distract me but i dont enjoy in it,
and i like to play few tournaments or use few clients at a time and dont have enough time to read chats nor to write something

If I'm home alone, I let the dogs out before I'm playing.

If Wifey is home, even if they were just out a while ago "Jamie, let the dogs out, they want to go out". She doesn't think they just saw a cat or a crow on through the window, so since they're trained to chase little furry fellers, that's all they want to do.

I'm one that finds chat distracting. In the past I would always either disable player chat or click on the stats.
I would also find boredom to be a problem.
Lately I have been trying to recognize when these things are affecting my game at the time when they are affecting my game.
My goal is to overcome them mentally rather then avoiding them, hit them head-on so to speak.
Like an exercise in training myself to stay focused.
Not sure it's working well, but I do believe there is some progress.
