I disagree. Poker depends almost exclusively on skill, in my opinion it is the most luck-invariant card game of all. Of course the luck factor is present, but it only affects your results when you play very short sessions and games. The more you play, the more you are getting closer to the statistically directed outcome.. I mean that when you start your poker session and after half an hour of play you feel like the luck is really not your best friend today, then you just have to stay calm and patient and play at least twice the time you had been playing for so far, and after you double your playing time you WILL see that you are much closer to average when you evaluate the favor of random cards dealt for you during the session.... it is simply impossible to be affected by luck for extended time of play... probability is a strictly and precisely defined mathematical set of rules which are ALWAYS applied without exception in reality.... with the most important rule being that the more cases of randomly selected elements of some given set of objects (in this case the 52 cards) are added to the history of game... the closer you must be in summary getting to the plain average (meaning you will converge to the defined average outcome which has the cases of randomization forming some known pattern which is easily defined using basic principles and formulas of mathematical statistics and probability theories.

Is poker a passion?
For most... and for others it's about recognition, fame an $$$.
Is poker a hobby?
...delicate matter, and it is my opinion there is another name for "hobby" (when it comes to poker), but i'm not the one to judge. For me, it created an addiction in some mild form.

It does depend on luck, but playing on a luck basis is the mother of all fukups in poker. It can only get you so far... And if you're lucky once or twice in a row... u make it a style, and in the long run, it's disatrous. The skills involved in poker, don't really have anything to do with a predetermined rulebook, or a science you can learn and master. It's mostly knowing when to fold, and getting the read on your opponent(s), by using equity %'s, odds, previous play etc... The more you play, the more you will see certain patterns having effect in your game... though not always. You could call it skill, but it's way harder to master than others, precisely because luck is involved. Like any equation, you can't calculate a precise result, if one of your "unknowns" is a variable. You can at most, calculate a reduced number of possible outcomes.

For sure Poker is not a job.
If it was a job, so you have to be a professional poker player, with minimum looses and maximum revenue.
A person who play poker a lot have the passion for this game.
My advice for this poker community is to play poker for fun, for suspense, for the luck more than the money.

Poker is based a lot on skill , less in luck , especially on the long run especiallly imo .
That why for me is still a ''hobby'' or sth to have fun , I am still learning and I have a long way to go , but I hope someday I climb up the laddder and start beating some gamess/sngs/maybe tournaments ??
