Hi, I'm 16 and think I've become a serviceable poker player, especially for my age. But I'm wondering if I'm the best player at my table should I win every time? I'd say I win about 7 out of 10 times in both my regular games and I'm wondering should I win every time? I just can't help but think since the pros like hellmuth and Ivey probably mop the floor with lesser players then that means I should. So I guess what I'm wondering is how often should I expect to win?

If you win at the age of 16 at 7 out of 10 tables, then you have a chance to make a big wealth at the game by the age of 20, and travel the rest of your life....:D

I don't think the best player always wins. I believe it's the most daring one. There are some mediocre players who somehow manage to win, it's incredible!

Interesting thread. A 16 year old Pro who takes 7 banks of 10. So what else can I advise a player like that? Go to Las Vegas, play the big tournaments. How often do you have to win? Every hand! No less.

I don't think so, because a bad player who doesn't know when to fold could end up getting a lucky river and winning...

The fact that you consider yourself to be the best player at the table, this assessment, may be your biggest weakness. You should never underestimate your opponents, because it always leads to bad consequences. Especially when you're 16 years old and you think you're the best player, despite the fact that your opponents may have decades of experience, it will obviously end up leading you to lose money and disappointment.

The Best Player Does NOT Always Win... That's Why Phil Hellmuth is famed for his quote "If there weren't luck involved, I would win every time."

I'm 44 and if life has taught me any thing, it's that EGO is a very Dangerous Thing, and..... I wish I was 16 again knowing what I know now...

You Do sound so much like Stu Ungar... It will be interesting to see how far you go...

Good Luck...
I think these are useful and necessary words for a young guy.

Absolutely not, but better players will get to final tables more often than lesser players. Like in any other game sport or pastime. Long term the cream will rise to the top.

Not at all. The good player just increases the chance of winning.

In the long run, they often do.

But the long run can be extremely long.

In LIVE Games, especially MTTs, you would probably have to play several lifetimes to get a true win rate.

If only the best players won, poker would never have become as popular as it is. The peculiarity of poker is that most players (including you) consider themselves to be better than others or even the best. But in fact, 80% of players get or don't get a result only because of their luck, or lack thereof. The dynamics of your bankroll growth is a reliable indicator of your skill, and this dynamics says more about you than any words.

If you are a better player than the others you will win in the long term, but in the short term you can win and lose, in poker there is always variance, but if you study and work hard on your game you will win more than the others.

If you're 16 years old, I wonder how long you've been playing poker?
Apparently, if you consider yourself a "good player" at 16, you will already be a professional at 20.
If you win 7 times out of 10, then you definitely have talent, although to be honest, I have some doubts about the authenticity of your words :)

No. In poker the best doesn't always win... in fact most of the time they will lose! The difference is that the best know how to take advantage of situations...

Hello. I couldn't read through all the comments, but I can't help but wish you success. I believe that a good player has an advantage, makes more right decisions, but winning every pot is not it. Be careful, it's not far to the "Helmut complex". Good luck at the tables!!!!

It really depends because poker has that variation thing, right? There will certainly be an advantage due to bankroll and experience in tournaments, but this varies a lot.

The best player makes the best decisions. This does not always mean they will win, because poker is a game of both luck and skill.

Hell no read some pros books and im not a person who says need to go buy pros books or should...I tournament player is lucky to get in money 1 out of 8 times is something to shoot for....Now that said you have to make that one count if that is how your running at times your gonna win 5 out of 8 times but mostly one win out of 8 will keep you profitable as long as you finish near the top....Cash is different your young work on knowing PEOPLE spotting them if a live player...See is this a real poker player or is this guy on vacation and happy to play a few hands? Spotting that is key... Same thing at a bar so to speak for drinks when your older...Spot the characters learn how to judge them do they always call down with 2nd pair on board etc...that is how you become successful

I did not understand quite what you meant more poker sites are not for people with higher age and how you could be playing poker 16 years old?
i began playing poker at 11 with owners of dominoes pizza in kalamazoo Michigan with an older cousin i won constantly cause was a card player at 8 years old with friends...and i was lucky...I will tell you each time i won i was scared the guns were gonna come out and not let me leave haha and i won every time never failed to win....was an education and look back and know that is why i kept returning to poker my entire life

Even skilled players can face prolonged downswings due to the game's inherent variance. With typical variance, downswings lasting several months are not uncommon. Adequate bankroll management and maintaining a long-term perspective are crucial to weathering these periods, as short-term results often fluctuate significantly despite correct play.

I think that for tournaments they can reach paid seats, but it is impossible for them to win first place in all tournaments.
As for cash games, they can distinguish themselves from others with their professionalism and skills.

For 100% victory, you need to have great luck, and then everyone loses

I think it's kind of a premature stat, 7 out of 10 👍, but can you maintain that?, if you change the level to a different level than you're used to, does your percentage hold up long term? If you are proposed above will you keep up? And finally, if you are put in a game that is not a routine for you, would you still be able to easily talk about percentages?
From my little time in poker I can easily tell that at these changes in stakes or entry level there are periods of rapid rise in the short term followed by an end of hard, which asks you the question: do I try one more time after such a torment?🤔.
So maybe experience, skill and knowledge will always come before any rake stat or whatever that means.
