For me, the key is setting boundaries: dedicated time for family, breaks after long sessions, and clear limits on when and how much I play. I’ve had moments where poker tension or focus created minor friction at home, but keeping open communication and prioritizing family helps prevent serious issues. Without that separation, the game can quickly start costing more than it gives.

It’s not really a good idea to play while they’re around - too many distractions and questions - so I only play when they’re asleep or out. You also need to make time for your wife and family responsibilities, which limits poker time a lot. That’s why I prefer turbo tournaments or short sessions, and I don’t play cash games at all.
