Hi Everyone,
I'm new here but I've been playing poker for a little under 2 years now. I would say I'm decent but I mostly play live home games/casino tourney's or cash games. I played online for a while but ended up quitting because of the insane amount of bad beats.
I recently played a Deep Stack tourney's at one or my buddies places. It was alot of fun that lasted a good 7 hours because of the starting chips - 10,000 and half hour blinds. My question is who likes the deep stack format and who would rather play a regular game?
My second question is in the last deep stack tourney I had a hand that I would like some advice on a) what I did wrong or b) what the other player did wrong.
Here is the situation: I'm in the big blind with pocket 4's....it's been raised to me by a guy in 5th position (standard triple the blinds raise about $150). I call in the big blind hoping to see a good flop.
FLOP: A(diamonds) K 4(diamonds)
It's just me and the other guy so I check hoping for a continuation bet. He bets the same bet (triple the blinds) so I raise to $1000 because I want to kill the flush draw (although I put him on AK). He ends up calling.
TURN: 6 of clubs
This time I bet out 1500 (these are overbets but I have been burned in the past by other players at this game with flush draws). He thinks about it and ends up calling.
RIVER: J of diamonds.
I check thinking there is a possibity that he had the flush draw but didn't fully believe it. He bets 5,000. I think about it for a long time and then decide to call. He flips over KQ of diamonds and wins.
Let me know what you think. In the end I came back (we started with 10,000) and ended up facing him heads up and winning.
