is asking someone at a table to sponsor the same thing as asking someone for money? cause i'm pretty sure asking for money is aagainst the rules.

I'd have to know a little more about the context, but at first glance it does seem like garden-variety asking for money.

On the other hand when playing live at the end of a tournament and getting ready to chop with two other players, one did ask if we wanted to use part of the chop money to stake her in another event, and I think that's perfectly OK.

I say thats asking for money and would report his moochie azz pronto! stake him? haha! if he is that good let him stake himself. I think he was just trying to ask for money in some kind of fantasy land loophole he has going on in his head.

begging is a common and annoying way for broke players to get money out of real money players. You probably won't ever see your money again.

I have seen this all the time at the pro tables. Theres always a guy who comes on and begs for me. The good thing is that i have never seen anyone give them money. But, to answer your question, yes it is the same thing in my opinion. You are asking for money if you are asking for a stake.

There's no excuse for it online. There are numerous staking websites who oversee exchanges for a cut of the stake. Of course, only good players who don't welch on their payoffs will find it easy to get a stake. I'm guessing most people begging at the tables are the opposite.
