First Live Tournament

I want to try my luck in a live tournament soon. I live in Dallas, so am deciding between a 60$ tournament at either Choctaw or Winstar. I know Choctaw starts you off with 50 BBs. Not sure about Winstar but Winstar limits their tournaments to 80 players plus alternates. Have any of y'all played any of these tournaments?

I played the tournament at choctaw. The one I played was during the week and it was more like a sng. I think there was only three or four tables and from what I remember the blinds went up rather quickly. I made the final table but didnt cash. It was alot of fun though!

No, I have not. Losing money to old, unattractive, strangers sitting around a table, eating, stinking up the place is against my religion.

I have not played in that tournament but it sounds like a lot that are in my area. Buy-ins are anywhere from $60-25, and you start with $5,000-2,000 in chips.

Blinds go up every 12-15 minutes.

I now play to get chips, instead of attempting to make it to the final table.
Since I changed my mind frame I have made it in the money more lately than before.

If we are down to three players usually we chop the winnings.

but the 1st time i played a live tourn i had to get used to few things.

basic stuff like: seats #s start at 1 and go counterclockwise from the dealer lolol etc etc lol

but the #1 problem i had with that 1st tourn was with the deaaaalers.

some were good, some were bad and some are outright rude.

its the rude 1s that if u get, try not to let em bug u or influence ur decisions.

like rush you, when ur not stalling or doing something silly etc. when ur playing. if u got a question, dont be afraid to ask. if u think the dealer is wrong or just not being a decent person lol, call their boss or casino rep. or whatever and get it straightened out.

find out how to get a head count of whos gonna be in the tourn. ur gonna need to know whick tables on ur poker floor are designated for cash games and for tourns, to keep track of whos left.
