Flopping top two pairs?

I was wondering what to do when you flop top two pairs. The other day my brother in law had a Q J of diamonds in a 25 50cent blinds and a guy raised it to 2.50. Well the flop came Q 8 J and he pushed his 9 dollars in the pot thinking he had the best hand. Well the guy flopped over pocket Q's. Giving him trips. What do you do in this situation?

It's really a situation you can't really get away from it. I think even most of the pro's would go broke with that hand, it's just a cooler. Anyways, when you flop top two you are most of the times way ahead, so it's a really hard laydown, even if you know you are beat.

you have to look at the situation then put him on something..honestly in this situation , with the preflop raise..i would put him on AA - KK or a AK with a straight draw..

any time you flop a connecting 2 pair...like q-j 10 - j a-k you want to push hard and try to end the hand so people dont catch their straight..

sometimes it works , sometimes it doesnt..this situation is just unavoidable

if you get the hint that the guy has q-q you should probably bet smaller and see what he does

you shouldnt ever go all in unless you have the nuts ..or a strong read on your opponent..

bet strong..but leave yourself a way to get out of the hand with some chips left

these situations are tough tho...

I will always keep in mind the various pre-flop raises before I make a move. If the pre-flop raise was more than the size of the pot, I will place him on a high pocket pair, or two high cards AK KQ etc.

On a flop like QJ9 even if i hit a two pair or a low set, I will put a pot side bet up to see if the person who raised will take the initiative and re-raise, if so. i'll fold

I think it is possible to get away from this hand if u check fold to a monster raise, but I most likely wouldn't check and give a free card here. Nor would I likely be able to fold to a reraise if I had bet 1st, . I agree, its most likely a hand that you can easily go broke with, but more so, than not, it will be a winner

I personally find it difficult to lay down 2 pair, especially if my overpair is top pair on the board. That being said, two pair can really get you in trouble. I used to play two pair way too much, thinking it was a good hand, but I found I was gettig beat by folks holding small pocket pair that flopped sets or were hitting it on the turn or losing to flush draws. Maybe I was not betting them agressive enough to get rid of people who were chasing draws.

I do find that 2 pair can pay off quite well in SnG's when the table gets down to the last 2-4 people. 2 pair can hide on a flop when you are holding one of each in your hand, instead of starting off with a pocket pair and the board flops a pair. Mid-range suited connectors seem to pay off well for me in short handed play, flopping 2 pair, flush draws and straight possibilities, sometimes the board can disguise what you are drawing after or just hit and it helps you get paid a little more.

i think this hand is easy to get away from on the turn or river more so then on the flop... you can't be scared to play when you flop 2 pair

now if the hand makes it to the turn..like say you bet and they smooth call

then a 4th straight card comes...then it would be an easy check-fold

I've been in this position many times. Most times, however, I've had the person slow play their hand. And, of course, I'm betting like a maniac all the way to the river. Hard to lay down and sometimes very hard to read.
