Fold the best hand?

Has anyone folded the best hand?

About few days ago, I was playing on ultimate bet. I was in big blind, limped pot. Everything was checked around. By the river, board itself was the nuts. T J Q K A rainbow. Some idiot shoved all-in for 20 dollars in .05/.1 stake like he had the best hand (no duh). There were like 3-4 callers in front because it was the nuts. I became frugal and calculated saying, "if i fold, I lose 10 cents. on the other hand, if I call, I split and lose 5% of my chipstack over rake, which would be over 50 cents since I had 10 dollars." I folded because it was a way to save money. In tournaments, I call of course. But in cash game, I folded bcz i can lose more through rake than what i lose if I folded. But at same time, I felt very stupid to fold the best hand.

Was I suppose to call since it was the nuts or was folding a better play in this case? Economically, folding is profitable but poker wise, i think it was stupid fold. Any advice for this?

Personally I would have folded as well. Then in the chat box I would have told everyone that they lost more to rack than if they had folded. Smart move on your part in my opinion, bad move by the rest of the callers.

Seems to me you won that hand as you made more profit out of it than the other players...doubt most of them even realised.

Of course, someone had to call though!

pretty good logic i never would of thought of that as a reason to fold the best hand but now ill look more at that in future in a chopped pot

id fold,rather give the retards 10c rather then 50c...

Now I feel better that some of you guys would've folded too as well. Because although in poker, you never fold the best hand where you cannot lose, it just didn't economically make sense to call and lose money through rake. It just felt awkward for me to fold something where I know I cannot lose for sure.

And there was a person who actually called me a donkey in the chatbox for folding. lol

Some show their cards but most don't. I've often wondered if I've folded the best hand and never find out. I usually call if their is a doubt in my mind and my bankroll is large enough to take a hit, however, sometimes it's good to play safe. All depends on how the cards are falling for you that day and how the other players are betting at the table. Just almost to much to consider....why do I like this game so much??? I keep asking myself that.

it's hard to lay down the best hand so just like you i never do and very often i lose to crap...it's no fun but it's in the game

I might be just me but I think I would have called.

I would of folded that in a tournament but not a cash game, I know what im doing.

Its all about what you feel. You gotta listen to your sub-conscious and here out the thought that it is telling you what to do, and thats how you become an awesome poker player

Yes, very good fold at that point. If you had over your .50 in the pot then call. I never get it why someone has to push in a tournamet or a cash table when the best hand possible is on the board.

I get onto idiots like this all the time when its obvious its going to be a split pot in a high low game. Two idiots keep 4 raising each other and all they do is lose money in rake and when I try to explain it to them I usually get called something like a dumbass or a donkey with other people just typing in stuff like lol at the table. Sad thing is I dont know if theyre laughing at me or at the other two.
