Folding AA preflop - for those of you who missed the poll...

Hi all.

I know some of you will be saying "not again" but as I have not seen one of these polls for a while I want to start it again to see if things have changed.

So regular members, please don`t be nasty - its a bit of fun

I personaly think this kind of post helps new players to think about more than just the cards they are delt.

Here goes.

1st $12m
2nd $4m
3rd $2m
4th $1m.

U r delt AA in the big blind. U r short stack, 2nd (Phil Ivey) and 3rd place (Dan Harrington) are about the same, both with twice as many chips as you, chip leader (Doyle Brunson) has a massive chip lead.

UTG, Phil, all in, Dan all in, Doyle thinks for a while, then calls.

What do you do and why???

In most circumstances preflop, I would definitely push as well and go all-in, and sure...if I went in on this case and won, I'd be the chip leader over the other three...against 1, definitely you have the greater edge, maybe even 2 in certain circumstances...but AA against a field of 3 or more other players, I fold and wait for another opportunity to build my stack. We are dealing with players who know the game, they aren't pushing all-in with mediocre cards. ...and more often than not, the push would be with either face cards or very high pockets...you are against 3 different pocket cards possibly hitting for them at any point on the flop, turn, or river...

At this point if I am not in this hand, there is a great likelihood that my position increases by the mere elimination of one or possibly two of the other players.

in a 4-way pot your odds of getting your rockets cracked are very good. Fold, hope 2 players get knocked out and you make money in the process. No brainer for me.
