Has the FUN stopped?

I was just reading a post from someone who six months ago hit a really bad losing streak, couldn't pick up a winning hand for love nor money, and he was getting really down about poker; but he carried on..... And it seemed to get worse. Recently he transitioned to Badugi, and he is having some success and he is now enjoying the game and it's making his life better.

So, I just wondered whether any of you guys and gals had hit that point where for you, the FUN had stopped, and whether or not you STOPPED (as the advertisements suggest you should) or just carried on, or you did something different, and how your decision affected you (if you noticed).

Answers including the word 'VARIANCE' are not particularly helpful in this thread.

I had a similar moment in life. Me playing poker was no fun. I took a break for a few weeks. Began to play different types of poker. Now I poker as before enjoy it!

I think I need a break too. I know Im a better player than of late. Mediocre

I thought about it only when playing turbo SNG's. Several beats a row, tilt, again beats, and now a bankroll is close to zero. But I quit this discipline, now I play only cash games and multi-table tournaments, and always take into account bankroll. Now only a plus. Sometimes little, but plus!

I still try to have 'FUN' while playing poker but I do find I have lost a lot of the desire to get better. I just don't feel motivated.

Most of the games I am still playing in these days are filled with bad/weak/non-thinking (level1) players, making it a 'less thinking' game than I know I would prefer to be playing. I find I've just drifted away from the game. Also the online atmosphere has changed so drastically there's no longer the appeal of wanting to take a shot at it.
I still play some local cashgames, & dabble a bit in micro SPEED cashgames online (when I've got a bit of spare time) & the occassional Cardschat tourney (I sure miss the days when the forum games had a large number of solid players in them).

The goal has always been to 'keep it FUN'. At times when I felt poker was taking over in my life, it wasn't always 'fun'.

Hmmm, i haven't hit that point where poker wasn't fun anymore, and i still played. I treat it as i see it: a hobby. There are always times that i don't play for a while (in the summer time for example), and times that i play more. But winning or loosing doesn't affect my 'love for the game'.

I think many people are treating this game way too seriously. Off course you have to get better etc, but everyone want to win the wsop, and improve enough to do that next year. The pressure people put on themselves is incredible. You have to know that becoming a winning pro player is only for a minority, and that they don't become that in a couple of days (yes, i know there are exceptions, but then again, there are people that win the lottery as well, doesn't mean that i'll win next week...)

I think it happens to all of us at some point. I hit that point last fall. I won't get into the details or this will end up in the rigtard thread. In the end, I ended up requesting a $650 money transfer every 10 days for almost 5 months, until my account was empty and started playing Zynga Poker. It took about 6 months for me to get the funk out of my system, but by March I was ready to make a small deposit and start trying to build up another bankroll.
