I feel like you don't have to give up, you can take breaks or go something like "part-time".
Play on weekends or limit urself to couple of tournaments a week and u will still have to for job and family so i feel like if you rly love the game you should never give up

I never give up poker, and i dont give up quality time with my wife.
The reason i say it like this is simple:

I organize it as good as i can.
Like when im going to play poker she knows im a few hours of the radar, but this would be the same if i would go to soccer training, go out with some friends etc.
Other way around, when i spend time with my wife, i dont even think about poker.

Its a simpel answere, but it works for me

I think once your thinking something like that you should stop:0) Your family should be #1 every time:0) if poker is causing any conflict with your family give it a break, poker is not that important but your family should be:0) Good luck out there

At the moment I have not given up poker because it's my first hobby, the second main way of earning money, I always find time for both the family and poker, it is necessary to combine)

This is funny. What ever you deem are you're priorities. If poker is more important than family, taking a good chance of them not being there for you. It is balance, you have to find time for what matters.

For me, poker is entertainment...would I watch TV or a movie or sports instead of spending time with my family? No, so I make time for my wife first, then play poker when I have free time.

I have poker as a hobby and fun. It's not my priority. I organize my time to spare a percentage for him, but I do not withdraw anything from other parts of my life to devote to him.
Poker is nice, difficult to give up, but there must be a control over time to not go overboard.

I'd Agree With David1bear, If Playing Poker has you Asking yourself "When should I take a break to devote time to my family" then there has to be plenty of reason you've stopped to ask yourself the Question lol

Hmmm Wife on your Case? Children asking you to play Ball? Just one missed Parent/Teacher meeting for that one MTT that could make a difference? lol the list goes on doesn't it?

If its any of the above and any thing other... then take a break...

We Will all be here, Casinos and Opponents alike all waiting to take your chips when you return...

Sooner or Later you'll find plenty of spare time and Poker is like Golf, there are no age requirements, you can even start up when you retire...

Stop when the fun stops or when its your turn and the baby is crying

I give up when I bust all my tourneys.

As a beginner to the game, for me it's super important to take breaks from the tables and just concentrate on studying poker. Even though I play everyday, some days I only play very short sessions and then spend the rest of the time just studying! :icon_stud

It also helps to have other hobbies too.

LOL mtmigmike I love that you're so honest, haha, Haven't we all waited until the Partner is asleep or not around before indulging in a little pleasure all of our own LMAO

Seriously though I'm very Lucky, I've Had 10 Years as a lone parent before my children decided that living with their mum would be an advantage over having a dad make them tidy their rooms, do the dishes and feed their own pets lol... it was heart breaking when they wanted to move in with their mum after she'd come back to england, felt a slight amount of abandonment issues lol

Now My Children visit and stay when they have issues with their mum lol so I have a great time hitting the Poker Tables in between visits... Im also Lucky that the women in my life love what makes me happy... I'm living the dream, a very Poor sort of rags to riches dream, I'm still on first Chapter!, but I'm content.

There are still things you'll always wait for, until your partner is away or the coast is clear...

If poker is causing problems in your family life then there is something wrong and maybe it is time to play less and try to schedule your play when your family will not be affected. Good luck to all in their poker game and in their family life !

if you win from poker, the family will support you, but if you play hours just for fun or even worse and lose money, then it really is just an obstacle for your family.
if you win from poker, but the family does not understand you, that means you earn little amounts, the decision to increase profits
