Aggression is important, but too much can be risky. How do you find the right balance between aggressive play and discipline?

I try to stay aggressive by default, but controlled. Like betting when I actually have fold equity or some kind of draw/value, not just clicking buttons. Aggression works because it puts pressure on people and forces mistakes, but it only works if you pick the right spots

How do you decide when it’s the right spot to be aggressive? Do you mostly rely on opponent tendencies or your hand strength?

Be aggressive when you have a range or fold equity advantage, applying pressure with a clear purpose (value or bluff).
Stay disciplined by folding when ranges are against you and avoiding emotional or unjustified bets.

Balancing aggression and discipline in poker requires adopting a tight-aggressive style, where the selection of starting hands is rigorous, but bets and raises are decisive and consistent. Discipline acts as the brake that prevents the player from impulsively entering marginal pots, while aggression functions as the engine that builds the pot and extracts value from strong hands.

When my aggression gets my ass handed to me once to often, I up my discipline to reign the aggression back in. Then when the discipline lets to many opportunities slip away, I amp up the aggression. It is a constant adjustment, like driving a car, not to much left or to much right, keep them balanced where they compliment each other.

Balancing aggression and discipline in poker means knowing when to attack and when to hold back. Aggression helps you win pots and pressure opponents, while discipline keeps you from forcing bad plays or chasing losses. The best players stay patient, choose strong spots, and act decisively when the odds are in their favor.

I think it’s a mix, but I lean more on the situation than just my hand. Hand strength matters, but I’m mostly asking how likely they are to fold here, because that’s what really makes aggression profitable. If there’s decent fold equity, even draws or medium strength hands can be good spots to apply pressure
