That's not a "good" poker player, that is a "great" poker player. It's always hard to let go of AA, but the great ones always seem to know when they are beat.

You must not have seen Johnny play much. He's famous for at least three things. Back to back wsop Main Event titles. Always having and orange with him back in the day when casinos still allowed smoking at the table. And his shirts. He can be seen and identified from miles away by his shirts alone.

johnny chan is a great player but the fold was just a good laydown. i think if he was the shortstack in a tourny he would have went broke with that hand, probably after the flop. there wasn't alot of money in the pot and he is too good to make a hero call. johnny was just looking for a better spot, something we are all capable of doing but sometimes don't.

even so..to lay down AA likethat is amazing..thats why hes a pro & im a fish..i could have cashed in the OFC challenge this weekend, but i didnt laydown AA & i lost to a flush..i was mad but will think twice now before i push AA..after all..its top pair but only A pair..lol

What a good lay down. That is definitely a hand I know I could not have been able to read like that right from the get go. I MIGHT have been able to fold that to a raise, but there is no way that coulda happened to me instantly. If anything it would take me a long while to maybe fold that down... wow...

he probably thought someone had a big hand to have checked both flop, turn. he probably put someone on aj or kj or maybe even the boat, either way i know a lot of players that wouldnt lay that down for any reasons... thats why hes johnny chan

Sick lay down nonetheless. AA's were begging for a call the way it was played. you'll pay that -at least the river bet- in online poker %100 of the time.

There is a case, how live poker can give u so many more tells. And the experienced knows to read them all.

Wow excellent poker instincts from Johnny Chan. The extra jack probably helped a little, but great lay down nevertheless. Johnny Chan is one of my favorite players.

I face the situation with 2 AA in hand with the flop of 2 and 6 JJ do not pay .... it was very risky because ... because I was thinking that one of the players has a J in your hand and automatically out of me game! So I think in this situation was a good fold: D! this is my opinion!

On another website I used to play at, people used to call pocket A's pocket rockets.

Most would always just go all-in with them, rather than mess with them (this is play money). haha.

Nice fold though; 3.5k wasn't a big bet in that game, right?

I've had my issues with letting go of AA from time to time...to an inexperienced player, I think you feel that you are owed the pot once you are dealt AA. Just goes to show you why he is one of the best in the world and most of the rest of us just have to sit back and accept the fact that we will never be that good.

That was pure discipline. I would raise the bet, if the other player went all in on me, I would have to call. Discipline combined with the years of playing experience make Johnny Chan a living legend.

It may also be faith in his opponets ability.

Folding AA cant be easy, but if you give your opponent credit for having AA beat before betting then its an easier thing to do.

At higher levels I should imagine that its easier to be confident that your opponent wouldnt be betting with nothing in this situation.

that's what seperates the great players from the noobs. as I've played for more than 2 years, I realize how weak that hand is. I think you have to have good awareness of your opponents hand and even better if you know some of their tendencies. I think mr. Chan knew that Seed wouldn't bluff there and probably saw it in his tells aswell . They don't call Chan a pro for nothing that's for sure.
